How can I style my hair for our family portrait?

Asked by sevenfourteen (2422points) November 27th, 2009

My parents have 5 kids and getting us all together is a rare occassion. Since we all came home for Thanksgiving this year they decided we were going to get an updated family portrait (the last one we got done was about 9 years ago). It’s at 9 am and I have a nice sweater but now I need something to do with my hair, after all this picture could be the last family portrait for another 9 years.

My hair is shoulder length. I am half black so it is curly/kinky. I can straighten it but the ends are not so pretty. I was thinking half twistys and leave the ends curly it but I have nooo idea how to do them (yeah I know just twist but they don’t seem to look like they’re supposed to when I do them). The portrait is tomorrow morning so I need something that I can do myself, all suggestions welcome and pictures are encouraged :)

Picture of how it looks naturally?

I can’t let all my hair go free because the parts around my face tend to have weird straight pieces that’s what years of chem straightners will do to me and it makes the whole thing look messy

Could you pull off something like this, where it’s a low ponytail in the back? Or perhaps like this if you condition the ends?

Being an advocate for wearing your natural texture How bout trying two-strand twists so your damaged pieces will curl uniformly with the rest? You can do it tonight, let it dry while you sleep, and be ready to go tomorrow.

Soooo be youself.

I would think everyone would want to see you looking natural and just like yourself, not with some style you’ve never worn before.

Pony tail. Always looks classic, never looks dated.

Thanks everyone. I suppose the best way would be to just let it go,.. We’ll see how the curls turn out tomorrow.

@PandoraBoxx – the second picture is exactly what my hair looks like but with less shape because it’s longer. I just wish my bangs would cooperate like hers do.

No, ponytail. It would not do justice to your face. let the hair be itself and use hair combs, etc

I completely agree with @Jeruba she took the words right out of my mouth. I am very glad for my wedding I used a hair style that I commonly used.
