Credit card rewards - Share your results

Asked by Spargett (5398points) February 18th, 2008

Are any of you actually getting decent rewards from your credit cards. I’ve looked into some of the things offered, and they haven’t really seemed to be worth all the effort of using a credit card for everything. What are some of your results? Please post tangible responses, such as dollar amounts, etc.

I use priority club visa and get free hotel stays. For every $15000 dollars you spend you get a free night in a hotel. Over a year it adds up. When I travel I use my free nights ever year for family vacation.

well if you plan on using capital one no hassle it is the exact hassle. We got over 30,000 “miles” thinking thy are true mile for mile well they’re not. It takes about 250,000 miles to be a ticket to Europe, now thats spending 250,000$ on master card. Thats a lot. I think visa Alaska card is the best so far. Don’t get hooked on the “rewards” trick

It seems the rewards could be useful, but it takes a ridiculous amount to actually get anything good…that’s how my credit card is, too.

I’ve heard alot of people rave about AMEX’s buyer protection services, which could end up saving you alot of money at times, which I guess indirectly makes you money.

Personally, I am all for cash back cards. Some can be as much as 2% on all purchases (maybe with a cap on yearly earnings though). Others can be as much as 5% at certain times, places, or types of services. If you keep up with everything and pay all yours bills with them it adds up. While I will hold my thoughts about the hidden fees you pay on the back-end for the convenience factor of card networks. For $10,000 spent, I would expect to get back about $250 a year through calculated spending.
