Can you share a story with me about recovering from an illness in an unexpected way?

I remember once reading in an Andrew Weil book that a man with very bad arthritis was seemingly cured by a bee sting.
Have you ever magically recovered after being sick for a long time? When you thought you would have to live with your chronic illness for the rest of your life?

I’ve had several mental issues that I was able to overcome that I thought would haunt me for a lifetime and I think I was able to overcome them purely by chance. I was in some deep mental angst (thought I was dying; fearful of breathing you name it I thought it) and on a flight home from San Diego I found a book in the seat pocket that changed my life. Really and truly it saved my life. Chuckle if you must, but it was one of Wayne Dyers books. I was a skeptic of this type of healing until I tried it. Incredible and fantastic if you can put it into action
Lots of head aches when I was a kid. As a grown up they disappeared. Later a doctor told me it could have had to do with growing to quickly.
I had very early onset osteoporosis due to having to go through several years of heavy steroid treatments for another medical condition. I had compression fractures on my spine, and my bone density was really low. The doctors told me I could not get the bone mass back because of what caused it. Anyway, after my other medical condition was cured, I started swimming, jogging, doing yoga, and lifting weights. I went in for another bone scan a year later (they wanted to see if the osteoporosis was still progressing) and it came back with very high bone density. The doctor’s were pretty shocked, and I was extremely pleased! I wasn’t looking forward to having a hunched back by the time I reached my 40’s!
I have two stories, so I will post twice.
My mom was at a SF Giants game, and they gave away seat cushins as a promotion. During a late inning, someone tossed their cushin like a frisbee, and it hit my Mom in the back of the neck. She had a terrible time trying to move her head for years afterwards.
30 years later, my Mom was driving her car, and was rear-ended by someone not paying attention. The whip-lash fixed her neck.
I hurt my back on the job. I suffered for about 3 weeks, barely able to stand up straight.
My brother asked me to stop by his house for a minute after work, so I went there, and he had a truck engine sitting on his driveway. He said he needed help picking it up high enough to get it on the engine-stand. I knew it would be bad. I bent down, grabbed one side, and he lifted the other. He yelled at me for not lifting high enough, and I gave it all I had. We got it on the engine stand, and as I backed away…no back pain!
Haha. Filmfann’s ideas are not to be tried intentionally!
My friend’s mom got an infection that went to her heart and caused congestive heart failure when she was in her late forties. (There’s a congenital weakness for this in her family too.) They said she’d never recover enough to live normally, but she got back about 80% of her heart function. She can’t exercise, but other than that has a normal life, more than 10 years later.
And as far as cancer goes, there are lots of miraculous recovery stories. But don’t try the quack cures. Look for books written by doctors who work at reputable medical institutions.
