Does fiber make you gain weight?

2 weeks ago I started taking fiber because my doctor told me to. Since then, When I started, I weighed 188. This morning, I weighed 201. Is that a lot of weight for 2 weeks? I have been going to the gym every week day for the past month, and I am aware that muscle weighs more than fat, but seriously, 13 pounds? normally I just fluctuate 3 or 4.

That is odd. Increased fiber, taken properly (with plenty of fluid) pushes waste material through the GI tract more rapidly and more efficiently. You may want to mention your weight gain to doctor.
I don’t think it’s the fiber. Calories converted to fat or protein converted to muscle (or other body tissue) make you gain weight. Fiber contains, at most, a very small number of calories per gram, and as mentioned above, moves rapidly through your body. Your weight gain is highly unlikely to be related to fiber intake. Unless of course, by fiber you mean some kind of plastic fill material, of which you have ingested 13 pounds.
Fiber makes you poop, so probably not.
I would doubt it, unless, as gailcalled mentioned, you aren’t drinking enough water when taking the fiber. Although, 13 pounds seems a little steep. Fiber is good for you, but can really constipate you if you don’t drink enough water with it. If I were you, I’d call my doc again and ask what could be causing the weight gain.
It can’t be the fiber. Human beings can’t extract any calories from it. You’d need the stomach of a cow for that. So the weight gain must come from the other stuff you’re eating.
Doesn’t seem like it would. I’ve been taking fiber more…recently… no weight gain, improved digestion
I forgot to ask; why did the doctor recommend you increase your fiber intake. Constipation? Has that improved? If you, listen to @Les.^^
Are you taking a supplement or are you eating something with fiber in it?
Not usually. But, usually the initial introduction of fiber is difficult on the body..since most people don’t eat the recommended amount. It almost shocks your body, and you don’t go to the bathroom as much right away, but it evens out. Oh, and like others said, you need more fluids to help get the fiber through your body.
Fiber helps me lose weight. I go on a high fiber diet whenever I want to lose weight.
Possibly. If you have eaten more fiber than your body is used to, transit time may have increased (ie you got bunged up and food was passing through your system more slowly) this gives the body more time to absorb nutrients in the small bowel. (A common, but very bad, slimming technique is to take laxatives like senna to speed food through the system so the bowel is less able to absorb stuff.)
Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water so you do not get plugged up literally
