I am in the air receiving wifi (virgin/america)--and able to get Fluther. I may be the first in the Fluther 30Kft. club. how cool is this?

It’s the beginning of a free trial for Google. I think it’s neat, esp. for longer flights. This one is short.

I flew to Atlanta a few weeks ago on Delta and they had the free Wi-Fi trial going. I didn’t go on Fluther though, so you may be the first.
Nice. I also fluthered on Virgin America on a transcontinental flight though in my case it wasn’t free, and I had to fight with my neighbor for the seat-associated plug. I also used Gmail chat to IM, but didn’t motivate to video chat, which I think would have irked my neighbor to no end (especially since I was monopolizing the power outlet).
The first flying flutherite, fantastic!
So this means that your internet during flight is free? Totally awesome. Nothing is more dull than a long flight.
Only one plug @Shilolo? ~That will have to change in the future to keep violence from erupting…
So we have two in the 30k High club… any more?
You achieved the Flying Fish award!
@Dog Two plugs for 3 seats (one between each seat). The other one was taken as well. We were going to swap, but he decided to watch a free movie instead. Also, I opted to pay the ~$10 fee, since I was going to do some “work” on the 6 hour flight.
@shilolo It is good you did not have to resort to underhanded methods. ;)
I am not using a plug, seem to have lots of battery power left. This will be free until mid January. There is lots of other stuff on Virgin America, so I am awash in entertainment, emails, and whatever internet I want.
@skfinkel‘s quip sponsored by Virgin America ;-) ~
Very cool! Wave to us when you fly over…......
Holy flying flutherite, Batman!
It would totally rock if other airlines followed suit and offer it free.
@Shilolo was it outrageously expensive?
(Of course since most are now charging for luggage I doubt free internet is a concern.)
I was curious, and left my cell phone on during a flight. It worked. shhhh. Don’t tell anyone!!
Gives a whole new meaning to the “Mile High Club”!
@buckyboy28 On 9–11 calls were made from the hijacked airplanes. It is not that they do not work but that they are not allowed to be used. Personally I am very grateful not to have to sit next to someone talking loudly on the phone for hours on end.
I already received an email telling me this is worth $12.95.
Thanks for the link and the price info which, for a long flight, would be reasonable. I see Delta is in process hoping to have 300 aircraft equipped by the end of the year. With a fleet of 1001 I have a roughly 1 in 3 chance of it being on my January flight. :-/
I guess I can start saying ” I don’t give a flying fluther what you think…)
I didn’t Fluther, but I did wear my Fluther t-shirt from RDU to Dulles to San Salvador, El Salvador to San Jose, Costa Rica.
If you are on a plane with 500 passengers and they are all on their laptops, I would be scared the plane’s battery would go dead!
(I am not a happy flyer and the 15 hour flight from Sydney to LA is a killer!)
Our next goal: THE HIGH SEAS!!! :D
I save the planet and don’t fly anywhere. I think I deserve an award for that.
Joke. I don’t fly because I save my wallet, not the planet. But saving the planet is an indirect consequence of my financial well-being so everyone is a winner. Except the evil companies.
