I am throwing a baby shower for one of my closest friends, whose baby is due July 4th. When is the appropriate time to hold this event?

My friend is due June 22nd and I was wondering the same thing.
Formal baby shower guide books say 6 weeks before delivery. Though todays trends are have them whenever including after the baby comes
I would agree with gooch. In this day and age, you could have it at any time. I’ve been to baby showers that are very early or after the baby is born, if the timing of the mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, etc., becomes a problem. Nowadays, it’s very common to have couple’s baby showers, also. Try not to plan it for the baby’s due date. My last baby came a bit early and I missed the baby shower as I was in the hospital “birthing” him.
About a year ago I was invited to a friends baby shower that took place about a month and a half before the due date. I assume the date was chosen because it was simply a “free” date on their calendar, which allowed them time to hold the shower.
My sister was due feb. 5th and she had her baby shower in jan.
Not before the eight month. That is the safe zone, really, if something should happen.
