I wanted to put up a Holiday image for my profile but am completely lost as to how to get it to look right. It looks great on my computer till I upload it.
I am having trouble getting my profile image to look clear. So far I have uploaded it as a jpg at 72 dpi 5” x 5” to 300dpi 4” x 4” and no matter what I do it looks blurry in thumbnail and hazy in full- view.
What is the best size and format for a profile image?

I uploaded mine as a 200×200px jpeg and it came out well.
The image looks fine to me. I think they all get a little blurred – the problem is probably just that the resizing is messing with your text in particular. If you made it maybe sanserif and plain black instead of having that drop shadow it might translate better (despite being less pretty!).
I am not so much an image manipulating person, and I can relate. I had to take down my current “regular” avatar, because it looked so bad in the new profile format.
I am not sure how to fix it either.
If its only going to be viewed on a computer, anything more than 72 dpi is somewhat pointless. JPG is also a good format for the web. 200×200 seems to be the max the images are displayed on this site, so go with that aswell.
Aw – where’s that cute old Doggie face?
@janbb I am still orange for as long as it takes for our Cak to return. :)
Old dog is black fox is orange :)
@Dog Well, I guess this doggie face is cute too. (I’ve been orange for cak periodically too, but keep coming back to reading Pengie.)
@janbb Reading penguin rocks :)
I need to see if Cak has updated lately.
@Dog didn’t we go over this a while back? ;)
