Is there a way to deactive the new "fade" feature on Google?

Asked by buckyboy28 (4961points) December 2nd, 2009

Google came out with a new thing today where only the search bar comes up when you load the page, and only when you move your mouse do other options pop up.

It’s pretty irritating. Do you know if this is an option that can be deactivated?

I’m confused. Do you mean at Google.com? Seems the same to me.

@shilolo Yep. I think they might be sampling it in waves. I found this blog post about it.

Weird. I’ve tried it now twice with both Safari and Firefox, and the fade is absent. Is this an early Google April Fool’s joke?

@shilolo I certainly hope so. I absolutely hate this. Wanna trade computers? :^P

I have the fade happening here, too.. just checked. There doesn’t seem to be a way to turn it off, though. I checked search settings both logged out and in, and I can’t see anything related to the fade.

Here’s more information on this new feature. I don’t really mind it. Seems nice.

I’ve noticed this too, but blamed it on slow loading of the site because I only first noticed it today. If it’s permanent, I will be annoyed, but get used to it in less than a week.

I’ve noticed it for a while now, but I guess it was just them testing the variants mentioned in the article @TheCreative linked to.

It doesn’t bother me, but I don’t really understand the purpose.

I have it. I think it’s cool. There’s some info on it in their blog. I bet there’s a way to deactivate it – try posting in the new Google Help Group when they create it…

It only happens to me when I use I.E.
