move to jamaica where the weather is always nice
I’d recommend good lighting in your home and workplace. Wrapping up warm against the elements. Treat yourself to a scarf, gloves and a hat each winter and it feels like a treat when you wear them. I also recommend good loud and upbeat music when walking or commuting on winter days.
I’d also say, sometimes go with your feelings. If you have a day off stay home make some hot chocolate get warm and cosy and read a good book or fire up an old movie on the DVD player.
An old family friend used to remark about Christmas coming along soon to break up the winter.
When you think that the winter solstice, with most of the traditions that Christmas latched onto has been around for a VERY long time it kinda makes sense.
So I’d say eat lots, sleep lots and keep warm.
Bright lighting in your house for dreary days. It’s called SADD.
@faye I’ve heard of Seasonally Affected Disorder… What’s the other D?
Surround yourself with color! Warm colors usually work best.
Personally for me, sunlight has the tendency to give me headaches. I live for gloomy overcast weather.
Getting outside always helps me. There is no bad weather – just bad clothes. Dress to keep dry in the rain and warm in the cold,.
That probably sounds trite, but I honestly enjoy the outdoors as long as I’m dressed for it.
I had a neighbor who lived in a house with gorgeous tall spruce trees on the sunny side of the house. Her doctor recommended cutting one or more down to let more light in. Another friend has florescent lighting in every room. Whereas I could live in a cave with one weak candle. as long as there was tv, laptop, books, telephone…
@faye lol. Thanks. Was wracking my (tiny) brain for the other D.
Try visualization. When I miss the ocean, I visualize it for a little bit or think about how eons ago New Mexico was covered with water.
My doc has strongly recommended that I purchase a therapy light box for just this problem… I’m depressed all winter long! Sadly, they are quite expensive and I don’t have the budget for one just now.
