Will a worm in your freshly squeezed orange juice hurt you later on?

I wonder what type of worm it might be, if it was inside the orange to begin with. The orange juice was actually squeezed two days ago, left in the fridge, and I discovered the almost microscopic worms today in my glass.

Did you already drink the orange juice with the worm in it?
Well, if it’s anything like the worm in the bottom of a tequila bottle, it’s a pretty fun trip.
Are they actual worms, or is the the pulp?
Edit: @Phobia, what are you talking about?
@Phobia I know what it is, and the myth of it. But your “it’s a pretty fun trip.” comment is what I was questioning.
@rangerr Being wasted I guess. It was at a big party, lots of friends around, and I took on the dare of eating the worm. Now I’m not sure if it’s because of all the tequila I had before I ate it, the fact that I ate it, or something in the worm, but the rest of the night was pretty crazy.
@Phobia Tequila will make any night crazy, the worm doesn’t do anything. It’s just like eating a mealworm.
I wouldn’t worry about it but it isn’t very nice.
When I was a kid we had a cherry tree in our back yard. A friend of mine and I climbed up in it and ate about a million cherries each, then my friend decided to bite one in half before he ate it and there was a worm. We started looking and every single one had a worm in it. That was about 55 years ago and I am here to tell the tale.
Well, I had a glass of juice from the same pitcher yesterday and day before yesterday. Today I had already had a couple of swallows of the juice. I was talking over the phone and just gazing at the glass when I thought I would take a look at what I thought was a teeny bit of white pulp. When I had it in my fingers, I noticed a very minuscule movement.
I am now inspecting another batch of frozen orange juice that was done the same day.
The picture of worms that redpowerlady sent me, looks just like the worms I saw. Exactly the same which means it´s not an urban legend. (These aren´t chinese though) The ones I found were really really small. They are almost cute.
I will ask my doctor. I even contemplated keeping one in a jar.
That´s funny rooeytoo, that you had “a million” cherries before you discovered the worms…ugh.
So why is a mealworm harmless rangerr? Is it different from a tape or ringworm?
@food mealworms are just moth larvae so yes they are different because they don’t live off your body (ie not parasites).
let us know what your doctor says if you do ask
@food Yeah I would listen to @RedPowerLady, its most likely just a mealworm which are harmless and pretty common. They usually are found in cereals and stuff like that.
When I found that out I stopped eating cereal.
@Ailia How about bulk foods such as rice? oh and they used to be predominant in flour. Just don’t think about it. If there are no live moths in your house then you likely don’t have them. Ick!
I don’t know that mealworms live in oranges but it could be something similar. Instead of moth larvae it could be other larvae.
Most of the “tequila worms” are butterfly larvae. Source: My 10th grade bio teacher/bartender
@RedPowerLady Thankfully I do not have any live moths in my house and even if I did I wouldn’t have to worry; I don’t eat rice or bread. :)
@Ailia Oh but they get in everything! And your clothes! Ick. But glad to hear no live moths. That means no worries, lol.
I wish. I’d rather have to deal with live moths then the mold I just recently discovered in my house. :/
@Ailia I don’t know about that. We had a random infestation of them once (given to us by someone else, great friend huh?). They are a pain in the freaking rear. You have to get rid of all of your food. Then buy containers for all your food and store it properly. Then go through all your clothes, wash them and make sure no bugs. And clean everything. It is severely annoying. The moths aren’t too bad but the larvae are disgusting!
But I also know what you mean about mold. I hate that stuff!! It is so hard to get rid of!
@RedPowerLady Well we’ve had bug infestations before and yeah they were a pain but nothing, at least to me, is more annoying than having a dirty house. I’m not talking about a little mess but a big mess; floors torn up, dust everywhere, clutter everywhere, trash everywhere! Oh man that just irks me to no end. Especially since this just happened to me. I had to spend two weeks at a relatives house, it was not fun.
@Ailia Well i’ve never been there as we rent but I look forward to the day, lol j/k
@RedPowerLady Well I hope when you acquire your future home that it never has as many problems as mine. Re-doing floors are horrid and mold and foundation repairs are killer! Especially if you have to do everything by yourself and with your own money. It puts strain on the entire family.
Where I live all non refrigerated food (except cans of course) have to go into plastic containers. If it’s not the ants it will be some other sort of critter looking for a feed!
I don’t have moths but the mold is terrible, leather shoes turn green with it and clothes in the closet get that horrible musty smell. The rubber soles on your shoes disintigrate and dissolve into powder.
@rooeytoo sounds like a “fun” place to live..
@RedPowerLady – I always wanted to live in the tropics. Now I have done it for the last 5 years and I am ready for a more temperate climate. Sweating 24 hours a day is exhausting business, heheheh.
@rooeytoo LOL! I like weather myself, you know seasons that change, so when i’m tired of the heat I know it won’t be long before it gets cool and visa versa
