What would you do immediately following a nuclear attack on your country?

Assuming you weren’t so close to the blast that you’re dead.

Check to be sure I wasn’t missing any parts, then check my family/friends who were near me to be sure they’re alright. After determining we’re all alright, I’d go out in the streets to help others.

Get up from underneath the school desk I was ducking under.

The same thing I did after 9/11. Be in shock. Try to process what the attack means. Listen to the official government statements.

This presumes I was not at the epicenter of the attack and vaporized.

I don’t think the type of attack makes a difference.

Assuming I was close enough to be affected by the emergency, but not downwind of it:

1. Load up on iodine to help prevent thyroid cancer
2. Fill bathtubs/whatever containers I had handy with water (water system fails w/i 24 hours of lost power), shut off hot water heaters.
3. Go find some sort of weapon & ammo (shotgun best for mobs)
4. Top off food supplies
5. Barracade self & family in house.

Were I downwind, pack whatever I can carry into car, load up on iodine, and drive perpendicular to wind to get the F out of there. Then find shelter, etc.

Alas, Babylon is good reading for this sort of disaster preparedness =)

And if were outside the affected zone—yeah, do what I did on 9/11—bunker down at home and watch the news. (We watched ESPN, which was not as interrupted with idiotic local news as the actual affilates, it was just showing the ABC national feed)

I’d grab my cape, get down to the blast zone and prepare for whatever super powers are bestowed upon me.

Then I’d go save the world.

@jaketheripper What would you want me to do?

jaketheripper's avatar

@Sabotage82 I guess I don’t really care what you do, but I can’t imagine feeling horny right after a nuclear attack. I would be sick and sad…

@jaketheripper
who wouldn’t want to see a stripper with 4 breasts?

@ragingloli Like the chick from Total Recall, except with one extra! Awesome.

Find out where they would land and try to catch one, or be under one if it didn’t make landfall. wile having a live feed to youtube.

check if all the socialists/comunists died in the attack (they are like cockroaches, so probably they won’t)

i would probably put my head between my legs
and kiss my ass goodbye, cause the radiation sickness would probably kill me….

First I would check on the health of those around me, loved ones first. Then I’d make sure we have enough strength to move on (water, food, etc..). And I’d grab or collect everything useful around us. I’d probably check out the immediate area and do whatever I could to help anyone.

After that I’d get my family and friends together. Collect food and other survival items and store them and hide some (in case of raid etc..). Then go from there.

@jaketheripper Well, I’m sorry you feel that way. If you were actually alive after a nuclear attack, I guess you have that right. But me, I kind of expect something tradgic like that to happen eventually. So I think when it does…if I am alive afterward…I am going to enjoy life as best I can for as long as I can and not sit in my chair starring at the world through the television wondering where humanity went wrong. Sorry Charlie. No thank you. Besides, I wouldn’t be responsible for the attack and it is unlikely the losers that are would listen to anything I or YOU would have to say about it. So why worry so much? This is a hypathetical question after-all. Unless you know more than the rest of us?

I’d pack my bags and move to a country that wasn’t so hated and had less of a chance of being blown up.

Make my way north, to my house in the mountains.
We have well water there.
Everyone in the family knows that is the location to head to in such an event. Communications would probably be ruined.
We would plan the next step from there, depending on the events.

Hunker down and wait for the inevitable infantry mop-up. I’m not letting my country go without a fight!
