What's the difference between a Wrestling Duel and an Invitational?

Asked by Skippy (2166points) December 4th, 2009

In High School sports, the schedule shows Duel’s and Invitationals.

They all consist of matches, but what is categorically, the difference?

Been a football mom for years, this is my first real exposure with Wrestling!

@Skippy Sorry that I just saw your question today.

Deul meet is between two teams.
Invetational is a tournament of several schools.

I had the greatest wrestling mom in the world…I would be happy to help you in your journey:]

@valdasta – Thanx – As we move past the first invitational (this past saturday) Dropped him off at the wrestling room at 6:30 am ,off to location 40 minutes to other side of town- pick up same place 8:55pm – I went to the location, watched a few matches, bought some food – patted some backs, and went back home. These are long days…...

That makes a long day and even with the “lunch” I packed for him, it wasn’t enough and cash needs to go along for the concession stand.

This week, only a duel on Saturday.

Scoring is my next learning curve – take down/pin etc…the ref’s hands go up and fingers out, but there were several mats going at the same time and only 1 clock.

BTW did you ever let you mom know that fact?

Yes, made a post on Fb about my mom being the best (in light of all her sacrifices she made for me to have a happy childhood). I think it made her day.

I believe your son has picked an excellent sport. He will learn much about self-discipline, sportsmanship, mental and physical toughness, etc…
