How should I clean this aquarium decoration?

Asked by RocketSquid (3486points) December 5th, 2009

I just bought a Betta, and I’m preparing a nice 1½ gallon fishbowl for it, but I have a small statue I’d like to put in. It was in my last fish tank, and although none of the previous fish were sick, I’d still like to make sure it’s safe to put in before I throw it in there. It’s a small statue, I think it’s either ceramic or fake plastic ceramic.

Just scrub it with dish soap and hot water, (make sure you’ve got all the soap off!), let it air dry, and then throw it right in your new fish tank. You should be just fine.

I would put it in a pot of boiling water and then let simmer for 1 -2 minutes. Scrub and then let simmer another 1 – 2 minutes. I would not use soap it could harm the eco-system of the tank.

the preffered way is to go to the pet store and get iodine, and do an iodine bath for it to make sure it has no bacteria on it….ask the pet store they will bet you the right stuff….i use it for everything i put in my tank
