Gamers: PSP or PSP Go?
We are planning to get the boys Playstation Portable for Christmas. Is it worth the extra money to get the PSP Go or is the plain old PSP good enough?

I just went with a normal PSP (got one about a month ago). The PSP Go doesn’t have a slot for UMD, and that is just a turn-off for me. I don’t like the idea of having to download every game I want and save them all onto scandisks, which still cost money.
I prefer the PSP-3000. It’s smaller and better quality than the first generation one, and it has a microphone built in.
The PSP Go is small, but I’m not so sure that I would like not being able to use any of my UMD games. As far as I am concerned, it’s not really a PSP. It should be a considered a new device altogether.
I prefer the PSP 1000 to be honest. It may be heavier than the others, but as long as you’re not planning to carry it around in your pocket its fine. It’s also much stronger, and it has a nicer screen than the 2 and 3000. I’m not sure if you can still get them though. I would go with the PSP 3k in your case. In some cases, especially with me, games, even small ones, take such a long time to download, and they become a pain. I’m currently resisting buying the PSP GO until they give us something new. For example a touch screen, or a second analogue stick.
The PSP Go is getting an add-on that will allow it to use UMDs but I’d expect that to cause longer loads than a direct UMD port, and it would be rather bulky. your better off just getting a 3000.
The PSP 3000, ‘nuff said.
@Haroot That expansion is only rumored, they’re not sure, and it will probably be a long time in coming.
Also, I have only heard bad reviews of the PSP Go, and really bad ones at that. I’d highly suggest a regular PSP. It seems like a bad idea to be paying more for a substantially worse system.
3000. But if you’re planning to mod yours than get a 2000. I dont like the idea of having to download all my games. The wifi on the PSP’s isnt know for being good. In fact my phone can do better than it. And that applies to all PSPs. Besides there isnt anything special about the go apart from massive internal storage space. It’s got a smaller screen and it gets game much later than the others.
@BhacSsylan The rumor has been confirmed. But you’re absolutely correct in saying that it wont be around for a while.
@Bugabear Sorry, I only heard about it a few days ago, and it was still a rumor to the site I saw it on, so I didn’t realize.
Also, sweet avatar. “Only Bugbears may shop here…”
Whichever version you get, avoid the PSP Go. It doesn’t have a UMD slot, which essentially means none of the games for the other PSP versions are compatible, you have to download everything and that’s just bunk.
Get a PSP Slim or that new 3000 one, if it’s out.
I prefer the PSP3000, since there are not many games out for GO right now.
