What was your first car, and did you ever have any alterations made to it?
Last year I bought my first car. I got a BMW 320ci (see pic) I had some 19” rims put on, they are pretty sweet I think :) Got the windows tinted since that photo. I went crazy and spent $2k AUD on a personal number plate since that pic. lol, don’t ask me why :P And I want to upgrade the sound system somewhen in the future. :)

1983 datsun Nissan sentra. Epic. I totally broke it.
A 1954 Plymouth Belvedere with a flathead 6 that kept running even after my friend Charles smacked the car into a tree and bent the frame. Next: ‘49 Chevy.
1991 Honda Accord.
It’s broken in a million places.
Only thing that is fully functional is the radio. Literally.
A rebuilt 1946 Dodge. My paternal grandfather owned an auto wrecking business, picked up a wreck from the highway and banged the dings out so I could drive it. I was 16 and thrilled.

@rangerr Well, that’s all that’s important, dear.
@Val123 I didn’t say the speakers worked.
@rangerr Well, then you have a SERIOUS problem! Take it to the ER!
I inherited a 1983 Chevy Chevette 3-speed manual. The first car I purchased was a brand new 1987 VW Golf 4-speed manual, which I drove for over 180,000 miles. <3
‘94 teal dodge shadow. Yes I am a bad ass.
I have no car. I do not even have a license. German Public Transport FTW.
A 1967 V.W. bug, baby blue in color. It was my parent’s first car after they got married in Port Arthur, Texas. My brother and I grew up in it in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. :)
1970 VW Bug with an automatic stick shift (no clutch but I had to move through the gears) and a fiberglass front end. The gas gauge didn’t work so I kept a stick in the car with a line that indicated full, to test the gas level.
‘91 Jimmy that was bought used, my mother drove into the ground for seven years, and once I got my car for going off to college in, my little brother got it. It was great. I personally did not do things like running off into ditches or other things that might cause serious damage, but little brother did and it didn’t have a dent on it! Loved that thing!
A ‘96 Infiniti i30. No alterations per se, but it’s been fixed a lot.
1982 Mazda 626, bought it brand-new.
I was 32 years old and lived in Manhattan for ten years before moving to the ‘burbs where you had to have a car.

My first car was a 2007 Audi A6 and I still drive it. I got it for my 16th birthday (which was just two months before I got my license). I love it; it’s a great car.
2004 Nissan Micra (Black) SX, I love her but don’t wash her very often because she has sensitive skin like me
@avvooooooo – Nah, its the red ones with white “go faster” stripes ;)
1988 Toyota Corolla, hatchback, manual transmission. Lots of good times in that car. I only had it about 2 years. It was stolen in Hollywood and never recovered.
@avvooooooo and @pjanaway Yes, green ones not so much fast. Even if they have a black racing stripe. Like my Vega did.
1969 Firebird. Beautiful car. 3 speed.
!962 Studabaker Lark. Great little car-big V8 engine.
A used 1972 Datsun 1800 wagon, manual transmission, no A/C, AM only radio, and car manuals all in Japanese. I kept it for 10 years, until some ditzy blonde driving her boyfriend’s Camaro discovered that she could break the laws of Florida but not the laws of physics.
It was a great car – I could fix almost everything with some duct tape and paperclips, and I rebuilt the carburator on the kitchen table.
His name was Hideo the Dragon Wagon. R.I.P. Hideo.

I had a hand-me-down Tonka truck when I was 6. That is the only 4-wheeled vehicle I’ve ever owned.
My first, and most beloved, car was a 1986 Pontiac Fiero.
Being a spoiled brat, I came home from school one afternoon to find the car in the driveway. My dad picked it out, regardless of the fact that it was a 4-speed and I’d never driven a manual transmission. It took a while to master that tiny clutch, but once I did…oh, the fun I had! Zipping down Indiana back roads with Bon Jovi blaring from the cassette player! Good times, good times!
I had my Fiero for six years, until a minor accident totaled it. Little plastic cars don’t hold up well to collisions with pickup trucks. Up until then, I’d never had any problems with the car at all. You never see them anymore (probably for good reason), but someone around here drives a Fiero. It cruises past my house every now and then when I’m waiting for my son’s bus. Every time I see it, I can’t help but smile!
Red cars may not be faster, but they are more noticeable when speeding, as a cop so nicely pointed out to me once.
2004 Monte Carlo SS. I beat the heck out of it! It was a great car, too…
@aprilsimnel – Actually my very first four-wheeled vehicle, other than my Radio Flyer wagon, was my grandfather’s old Buddy-L dump truck that was big enough to balance on carefully and scoot yourself around on it. It looked like this
I still have it.
@Darwin – Wow!!!! That’s neat! I just a had a big ol’ 1970s yellow Tonka dump truck that I filled with rocks and leaves and chestnuts. It was too small for me to ride in. My guardian gave it away when I turned 6 to a younger boy whose family we knew.
In answer to the literal question “What was your first car” well, my first car was a car. Truly twas.
@Val123 – But what make? What model?
I personally would like my first car to be a Mini Cooper.
1979 Fiat Strada.
Ignition on the left side of the steering column. Transmission easily f*cked up just by spinning the wheels in reverse.
@Val123 and @aprilsimnel: —my current car is a MINI Cooper S, and I Lurve it!! See the Fluther Photobucket page for a pic.—
I have never owned a car. I don’t have a driver’s license either. I’ve had cars given to me, but they were all junkers that friends took off my hands before I put any serious thought into becoming a motorist.
I must be from fucking Mars, who the hell doesn’t have a driver’s license by their mid 30’s?
@FutureMemory – ::raises hand:: I’ve never been in a position or lived anywhere where I really needed a car.
@aprilsimnel Um…does that mean you guys are city folk? We’d have a hard time surviving without a car here….
O. I just saw the question about “alterations.” Well, I took my little Vega four wheeling, kind of. A lot. Driving up and down dykes. And Stuff. Sliding around in pastures in he snow. And Stuff. Racing. And Stuff. So, uh, yes, alterations were eventually made…..RIP.
A 1988 white cutlass ciera.
1972 firebird esprit with a 350 engine and pontiac rally ll wheels with 225/60/15 G.T qualifiers in the back and 225/70/15 up front
