Depends on what 20,000 you have of? Bananas? Red rubies?
My friend was a graduate student who made far far less than 20,000 per year in Honolulu, and she survived 3 years just fine. I think you can do it until June, but HI is really pricey, so you’ll really have to budget well.
This site offers this information and search capabilities so you can look at listings yourself:
“Hawaii (the Big Island)
The Big Island is Hawaii’s geographical largest at 4,038 square miles (twice the size of all other Hawaiian Islands combined). Rainforests, lava fields and fabulous beaches make this a spectacular place to call home. Most residents are employed in agriculture, retail, government or the tourist industry. When it comes to rentals, you’ll find plenty of condos and apartment rentals, with an average rent of $700—the cheapest of the major islands.”
Yen, or ruble?
Probably neither…..
If you don’t buy a car.
Stay away from the booze and the ladies.
No. The last I was there was 2001 and I figured about $5000. a month then to be safe, I can only imagine how much more expensive now.
I think you could make it work. You’d have to really search for a cheap apartment and eat Top Ramen though.
