How do you get a company party sponsored by a type of alcohol, so that all drinks are free?

Asked by Erin333 (5points) December 8th, 2009

The company I work for would like to throw a party at a bar or club in NYC at the end of December, but we’d like to get it sponsored by an alcohol company in order to reduce costs. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about this?

Usually they need it to be a semi-public event, not a private function. It also depends on what kind of business the company is in and if that can get the liquor company good publicity.

You might do better to look up beer companies and research their sponsorship requirements.

Just call up your local liquor store for the phone number of the company you want, call ‘em and hash it out. At least they’ll pay for SOME of it if you hang up enough banners, eh?

You may be able to get the selected bar or club to work out a deal with one of their suppliers in exchange for the publicity. I agree with gemiwing, You have to build a good case for what’s in it for the brand. If you are a non-profit, you are going to have an easier road to success.

In this economy? Good luck.

You might have an easier time with this if you seek out brands that are new to the market, a little obscure and need the publicity. There are micro-distilleries in the Hudson Valley that might want to do a NYC promotion seeing how close they are. If they are producing in New York State, I don’t think that they have to sell to retailers through distribution and you could be able to contact them directly. Of course, I they are distilling applejack from Hudson Valley apples, that is what you will be drinking.

Otherwise, again in NYC, you are going to be working through a distributor or wholesaler. I suggest you go on-line and look for some liquor-related trade publications and see who is mentioned and go from there.

You are having this party at an outside location. Ask the manager of the venue which liquor wholesaler is pushing what brand on them and use that as a base. The manager has the contacts, not you. If he or she succeeds for you, it is worth $50 or
$100 for his or her assistance and should not be expensive for you since the booze will be free.

At this point in December, I think you are going to have a very hard time of this.

Sorry for my opinion here, but what a waste of bandwidth! I can see it now, all drinks are free, as long as your cocktail contains Aquavit. MMMM. If you want to reduce costs, in this economy, try a no-host bar. People will have the drinks they want, and go home (relatively) sober. :)
