If you’ve ever learnt a language on your own, how did you go about it? What methods have been effective for you?
I’m trying to learn Russian, I already know Spanish.

As James Bond said: “Brush up on a little Danish”!
A friend has a tutor for Italian. The woman comes to her home once a week, and they speak. She’s been doing this for several years, and is quite fluent.
There are plenty of expensive programs like Rosetta Stone (expensive, because they work…but hurt the wallet something fierce), but my friend learned Japanese by using a lot of flash cards to get down some basic words, and then using anime to help her with pronunciation. It didn’t hurt that she really enjoyed anime, either, and could look at subtitles if she was confused as to a meaning.
I’m not sure what Russia has in the way of movies/television that you can get ahold of, but I’d say it seems like a key component in learning a new language is to surround yourself with it every day.
My wife says that I’m a cunning linguist.
i use rosetta stone. it’s very affective. i also get penpals who speak the language i’m learning and practice with them
Reading stories books is good way to learning language also try to speak with people whom speaks the same language ^_^
