Have you ever dreamt about a deceased person, but thought it meant more?

I usually never really remember my dreams and if I do, they’re not very vivid, but last week I had the weirdest dream ever. There was a whole bunch of things mashed together(as my dreams usually go) but, the most vivid part involved my two grand-parents(who are dead). My grand-father has been dead for 8 years and my grand-mother for 18(I barely knew her, I was 2 when she died)...my grandpa remarried after my grandma died but, in my dream, they were together-together, as if married, on patio chairs outside in front of a house I’ve never seen. I told them that I missed them and loved them and they told me the same. I kind of snapped out of it at that point and knew that it couldn’t be real, so I told them “But you guys are dead! How can this be?”, and they told me that they were always there at this strange house in the middle of the woods, if I needed them. It just felt soo real. I’ve never had any other dream feel that way.
Anyways, it was really weird and great all at the same time since I’d never really dreamt about them.
Has anyone had a similar experience where you thought someone was trying to tell you something through your dreams?

@mclaugh Thanks for sharing this question and your experience.
I’m 43 and my wife died a little over 20 years ago. I dream about her regularly. We talk in the dreams. In the first few years after she passed away these dreams frightened me because I was and am an adamant atheist. Frankly, the dreams were so real that they scared the hell out of me. So much so, that I couldn’t talk to her in the dreams and would wake up suddenly when I made an effort to converse with her.
Over the past 5 years I have learned to relax within the dream and not allow myself to panic at the sense of reality. The less I try to talk in my dream the better. Still, I often am left with overwhelming sadness when I wake up and realize it wasn’t real.
The oddest thing that happens to me, even as recently as yesterday morning…It only happens when I don’t remember dream. Her voice—sounding like she is at the foot of my bed—startles me awake. She just calls out my name, “David.” Not loudly, but urgently. Not panicky, but purposeful, as if she were trying to get me to pay heed to something. Though I honestly have real trouble purposefully remembering the sound of her voice when I am awake, when I am started awake by ‘her voice,’ it is exactly as it was.
I know it is all my own creation, but it sure seems real.
I had a dream about a month ago in which I was sitting at the kitchen table with my – in reality- dead father. He was giving me advice about something as was his wont. I didn’t remember the advice when I woke up, but his presence was very real. At other times I dream very vividly of my younger son who is still alive, but was particularly sweet when a child. I don’t ascribe any preternatural meanings to these sorts of dreams but I am happy for the visit from the person who is missing from my life.
@davidk I believe that dreams are what we make of them. Thinking or knowing that your dream was “real” or “not” is a personal thing. I for one, know that this dream(like yours) was unlike any other I’ve ever felt before. Two things are for sure though, the mind is powerful and works in mysterious ways. Thanks for sharing!
A night after a good friend of mine died (I was grieving) , I had a dream of him going up a bus . I am not sure why I was so upset about it but I was running after the bus and all he did was just to keep waving goodbye to me (he was smiling) . It was a painful dream , I woke up crying . But I guess he was telling me to let him go and he was finally free from pain .
Recently – about a grandparent. IGQ (Interesting Great Question).
I believe when we see a deceased person in our dreams, their soul is visiting us and it is important to listen to what they have to say… sometimes it makes sense!
I have never been able to meet my grandfather as he passed away when my dad was just a teenager, so for some reason i always had this thing where i would think about him, want to get to know more about him… just this longing, especially since i was going through a hard stage in my teenage years ( which is pretty normal when i look back) ...
One day I did see him in my dreams, and i did get to meet him, which was awesome, for me, i believe that he came to visit me and to get to know me !!
I find it distressing that in order to prove to ourselves that we’re intelligent, we have to pretend the spirit world doesn’t “really exist”. In this
way we protect ourselves from scarey things out there in the dark, but we forget how much our grandmas and old uncles and lost boyfriends loved us.
They keep the faith better than we can, don’t they?
A grandparent whom I’ve never meet died a while ago. Anyways an old guy appeared to me in a dream and said “Sno None” to me. At first I brushed it off thinking nothing of it but I then saw the words as graffiti in a bathroom stall. Then while at my parents house I saw a picture of him and found out it was my grandpa.
Anybody have any idea what this means?
@susanc
Perhaps you have a point. I’m not pretending, though, I simply don’t know.
I have had this sort of dream from time to time, I think probably most people do. In these dreams I am usually aware that the person is no longer living. I just enjoy the chance to see them again. (Feels nice to hug my dad again when he’s been gone 27 years!)
I dreamt of my sister shortly after she died. The dream was very vivid. In it, she looked so happy and she was clearly not in pain. I felt like she was visiting to tell me that.
Just today I dreamed of my older brother, who passed away some 9 years ago. He and his son (still living, BTW) were showing me around the small town where we grew up and where they both still live (in the dream). There were a lot of burned-out buildings, his house was one. I was helping them move a bathtub from the burned house to my bro’s new house.
thank you all for sharing.. it’s so interesting to read all your answers!
