How are we defining the internet? Information storage or the internet itself?

pjanaway's avatar

25.6 kb :D

A couple years ago Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google) estimated it at about 5 exabytes.

I remember reading a hard science fiction story where you could effectively store all the data that makes up a complex human intelligence/personality in a few exabytes.

@gemiwing I think @Christian95 means everything that is the internet:

“Information, servers, hard disks and everything else you can think about”

@erichw1504 Yeah, there are two schools of measurement thought and one of them goes down a totally different path. Just wanted to know if this is what they meant.

It’s quite big.

As big as a monster-house (when I was younger I would say really big things are as big as a monster house).

Another map of the internet

Bigger than a breadbasket…but smaller than the entire Universe.

anon's avatar

@SirGoofy Thank you for narrowing it down ;)

erichw1504's avatar

@anon Looking for more narrow? Bigger than a fridge, but smaller than the Earth.

anon's avatar

@erichw1504 Bigger than a whale but smaller than the ocean?

erichw1504's avatar
