Default programs to open picture files in problem...help?

I’ve been sending JPG zip folders to my daughter containing pictures I’ve taken, for a project she has going. Since she got the first one, her computer will only open the zip files in “Nero Photosnap Viewer Essentials.” Now it’s defaulting ALL pic files, not just the ones I’ve sent, to be opened with that program. That won’t work for her, because she can’t copy and paste that way. She didn’t install that program, she didn’t choose it to be the default program. It’s a bit more of a problem than just her project, because it’s also affecting picture files she needs to manipulate for her job, too.
Can somebody tell me what has happened, and how we can fix it? Mine open with Extraction Wizard…..

Defaults for opening applications can be reset from the Control Panel. I would delete that program because it does things without permission. She may wish to install IrfanView which is quite well-behaved and free.
I second using InfranView
You can change the default program for files by right-clicking and choosing Open With…; highlight the desired program; check the little box that says Always use the selected program to open this kind of file and then click Open. She’d need to do that with all the various image files though (.jpg, .gif, .png, etc) but that can be done as and when they are required.
There should also be an option in the image program she uses to set it as default for all image types (or seleceted image types in most cases).
1. Uninstall Nero. It’s horribly bloated and takes over your computer. Start>control panel>Programs and functions (under win vista/7)>Browse to find it>Uninstall
2. Fix the file associations: Easiest way is this: Start windows explorer or browse my computer>browse to a file type you want to reassociacte> right click the file>properties>open with>change the program associated with the file>make sure the checkbox “always use this program to open this file type” is clicked.
If you’ve got xp i’d suggest the standard picture viewer, if you want to edit the pictures too i suggest getting paint.net (it’s free and easy: http://www.paint.net/).
Ps. I have to disagree with the irfanview recommendation, although it’s definetly a capable program i find it just has too many functions and a horribly cluttered interface. I would not reccomend it for someone unfamiliar with imaging software Ds.
Add my vote to the IrfanView fans. It’s a great program, free, well supported and easy to operate.
I have in the past used Polybytes’ “PolyView”, and I liked that as well.
