How does it work when you decide to enlist?
I am 19 and thinking about going to the Air Force, looking for someone with experience who could tell me what to expect or what I will most likely be doing.
From my understanding after you do basic training for 8 months the rest is you work on your job?
Thanks for any information.

I imagine they give you a plane and say “all the best”.
Go to Barnes and noble and get a basic training book. You’ll have a good idea of your first few weeks.
Did not think about that, I will check the book store where I live maybe they have something.
Basic training is 8 weeks long. Then you go to tech school to learn your particular job. Then you work like a normal person.
I’ve written a lot about my experiences here: AFBMT
air force is probaly your best bet. my dad was in for 25 years and got to go to such amzaing places such as turkey for 6 years and he is well taking care of now by them. you have a lot more options and better jobs in the air force as far as what you want to do.
plus as a child i got to live in diffrent countries and was well travled at a young age and i loved it and am able to speak 3 lang.
The Air Force is definitely the way to go. First you need to find a recruiter who will be able to tell you all about how getting into the Air Force works and what happens afterwards. Once they check you out and you are qualified to be a member of the Air Force, you will get a date for when you go to basic training at Lackland, AFB. Basic training is 8.5 weeks which is shorter than all other branches, I do believe. After that, you’ll go to tech school and be trained in whatever job you got selected for. The length of tech school will depend upon what job you have. After that you will be given a little time to spend with friends and family and to gather your belongings to be sent to whatever base you were selected for. You will inprocess there and go to First Term Airman Center at some point to welcome you to the base and inform you about what it has to offer. You will also begin learning your new job guided by your supervisor.
That’s from enlisting to beginning your job in the Air Force in a nutshell. For a lot more information talk to a recruiter.
Have you taken the ASVAB test yet? This will be very helpful in deciding the best field to get into once you join. It basically lets you know how you compare intellectually with other people in certain fields, and gives you a list of those careers which may be of interest to you.
If you are choosing to go into the military, the Air Force is definitely preferable. It is a largely white-collar service, and the housing is generally better (as is the off-base housing allowance).
I am the wife of a retired Navy man but I have experienced some of what the Air Force has to offer in that until he turned 65 Lackland AFB was where my husband got excellent medical care, at Wilford Hall, the Air Force teaching hospital.
i would fly a plane or i would be ground support in the army
