Is there something that other people seem to just thrive on and enjoy, but that same thing drives you nuts with impatience?

Asked by Val123 (12739points) December 11th, 2009

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS! I had a friend once who just went all-out decorating her home every year. She’d literally spend a week tearing her house apart and redecorating every single room, including the bathroom, with Christmas stuff.

I helped her for a while once, and I spent about 2 hours carefully wrapping lights around a garland….I mean it looked nice, but about 3 minutes after I started I wanted to stomp it into the ground!

I’m trying to put up a bit of garland around my fireplace and also wrap some pretty red pearl things around it. I know I’ll get frustrated with myself, because in the end it won’t look as nice as it would if I’d taken more time and care….but I don’t care!

What about you? Things you hate that other people love? And do you understand them, and do they understand you?

Yeah, NASCAR.

I wouldn’t say that this is something that other people love but it is something that other people do that completely drives me up the wall. Licking their finger before turning a page completely freaks me out.

ugh Reality TV

@75movies I wonder why some people do that. Maybe they think it makes them look studious!
@gemiwing Ug X2. Football.

I hate football, or soccer as those in the US say, and for someone in England (in the North, no less) to say that they don’t like football is similar to saying that you want to kick Jesus in the face in a church.

@Val123 it’s to turn the page easier because sometimes the pages stick or your fingers are t0o smooth.

Cell phones.

Yes, I have one. I use it to communicate immediately pertinent information to people, such as “I’m going to be about 15 minutes later than we discussed.” or “I’m ready for you to come pick me up”.

People that flip their phones open and closed every 12 seconds just to see if they’ve received a new text message drive me insane. Cut the cord, people. At the very least, don’t do this in the movie theater. Please

@Seek_Kolinahr “Cut the cord, people.” But, cell phones are wireless…

@toomuchcoffee911 Clicking pens is a nervous twitch….I doubt they even realize they’re doing it or HOW ANNOYING it is!

@ChazMaz People that take five minutes to say good bye.

For me…it’s people talking loud on their cellphones. At the grocery store, at the airport, in the theatre before the movie starts, etc. I for one stopped using a cellphone 3 years ago and I don’t regret it one iota!

Christmas. Bah humbug!
wish I could take a vacation from the planet until it’s over

Val123's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr I agree. And people who text around while you’re trying to have a conversation with them….

My cell phone is my only phone, though. Ported my home number that I’ve had for 15 years to it a couple of years ago, and canceled the landline phone.

@erichw1504 I implied the cord feeding into their brain stem, turning otherwise normal people into Backlight-glow zombies.

erichw1504's avatar

Twitter. Seriously, if you don’t have something important to say, don’t say it.

erichw1504's avatar

@Seek_Kolinahr Yea, I was just messing with you. Like the analogy though.

Val123's avatar

@erichw1504 Well….we still “dial” our cell phones. And we “hang up.” Speaking of, Rick’s dad has an old, old, heavy, black 1950’s phone that you dial. Still works. Told Rick to bring it home. We have a land line hook up, but it’s for the fax line, but you can still use it as a phone, though, for local numbers.

I generally shy away from F2F social contact and often get irritated by overly-gregarious people, if their behavior is aimed at me.

Great answers everyone…EXCEPT @jfos Aerosmith!!??

@75movies: Yeah, online porn. Farking people, start making your own porn with a real live partner/s.

@hungryhungryhortence You know that one don’t have to pick one or the other, you can have both. The future is now.

Tabloid and Hollywood gossip media, ugh!! Why do some people care to be in the know about what the celebrities of the moment are doing on a day to day basis? It’s absolutely shocking how much of that crap is out there. It boggles my mind why anyone would waste time with that, instead putting that energy into their own life.

mcbealer's avatar

@forestGeek ~ a couple of years ago I lived vicariously through not necessarily the downs but certainly the ups of many of my favorite actors and public figures. It was a tough time for me personally, and I remember spending hours hiding away at the local bookstore, flipping through countless celeb magazines and auto/biographies.

For me, the bookstore became an ideal hideaway since I was usually with my young son, who is an avid reader. I wound up becoming a “regular,” and making several new friends with some of the employees and other patrons.

At the time, I honestly did not have the mental energy or wherewithall to focus on any type of involved reading. In turn, he had access to a diverse selection of books which is not available at our local library.

Looking back, although I recognize there were probably more positive ways to influence my son than sitting there flipping through these magazines – and it was not the most productive use of time – it was a respite from the madness in my head, and got me out of the house for a few hours.
