How often do you visit the homepage of your favorite useful websites?

Asked by Mamradpivo (9665points) December 11th, 2009

I never go to www.google.com or en.wikipedia.org anymore. Instead, I access the content I need from the search box in Firefox. I just went to the main Wikipedia page because I want to look at some random articles and can’t think of anything to search for. I don’t even have the site bookmarked, but I use it every day.

Do you go to the homepage for your favorite sites? Why or why not?

Never on sites like google but daily to sites like Fluther. It depends on the site.

Everyday being that it’s Fluther.

All the sites that are essentially search engines (Wikipedia, Google, Speckly, etc) I tend to search via Chromiums address bar.

Gmail I’ll visit sometimes but I usually use Thunderbird for checking e-mail (although I’m looking for a less-bloated replacement) as I have more than one account to check.

Facebook I visit maybe once a day and I’m considering just removing my profile altogether. Sorry, just realised you said useful.

There aren’t many other sites I frequently use, but when I do I usually access them via their “homepages”.

I go to about 25–30 sites on a regular basis, and most often through the homepage. I use the Firefox add-on “Speed DIal” which enables me to have 9 book marked pages show in 1 browser tab. This one page of 9 book marks is called a “group”, so in order to quickly access the 30+ sites I have 4 preset groups.

It is everything.

I use iGoogle, so it feeds me updates on many sites all at once. If I see an interesting article, I go directly to the article. So, I guess a lot of sites I don’t go to the homepage.
