In the movie "25th Hour", why does the Ed Norton character get to turn himself in at the prison for the start of his sentence?

Asked by colliedog (922points) December 11th, 2009

Ed Norton is supposed to be a convicted drug dealer. But somehow he is walking around free the day before he is supposed to show up at the prison for the start of his sentence. Is that realistic?

Could it have to do with paying his bail so he is allowed to stay out of jail until he is actually sent to prison for his sentence. Just a guess.

Thanks so much for putting that spoiler in your question.

@frdelrosario If I remember correctly you find that out at the very beginning so it really doesn’t spoil anything.
