LN is how the hippie (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) spells the name Ellen.
I get that, but, Verona’s tone seems to imply that there’s more to it when she sees it on the door.
I think she was just surprised. The initials ‘LN’ don’t mean anything in particular, it’s just a crazy way to spell your name.

I think it means lactating nurse
Thought I’d respond to this question since I found this post by doing a general search on Yahoo- for other people wondering the same thing… I wanted to make sure I was right about what LN stood for. I agree with Dana67. It means Lactating Nurse. That’s why she was shocked because that meant she breastfed for other mother’s who couldn’t. (Or in LN’s case, she’d breastfeed any child that would “latch on”.) Such a great movie!
I belive that it is lactating nurse also I find it funny that there is so many people asking this question I was realy curiouse what it ment I searched it found like 6 fourms just like this one
