Might be a good reward for yourself once you successfully stop cutting.

This girl on the most recent season of the Real World cuts. She said that she has replaced that with tattooing. I don’t know how psychologically healthy that it, but it’s a thought.

This is a very GQ, and although I don’t know the answer I’m very curious… I have a considerably large scar from a surgery I had as a child, and I like this idea of masking it with a tattoo.

The challenge for me would be deciding what to get the tattoo of…

You can do it but ink does not take as well on scar tissue as it does regular tissue. You’ll be able to tell where your scar was but no one else will.

maybe you should look into scarification as opposed to tattooing?

i dont know, but i’ll find out next week, thats when i plan on having a tattoo over scars that i have on the inside of my forearm…

@getakick That won’t mask it as well I don’t think, since it sounds like she’s already quite scarred up.

To answer, yes you can tattoo over scars. You will have to work with the scars (pattern etc.) in order to mask them, otherwise it’ll still be apparent. It sounds like you already have a pattern of scars covering your arms. For you, I’d suggest something intricate, where the pattern of your scars will become part of the design as opposed to showing through it, which I would see happening if you got a large and bold tattoo.

Good luck stopping. I know it’s hard. Try to get professional help if you can – they might be able to help you think of ways to stop. Also, if you’re old enough to get tattooed now, that might help you stop – you won’t want to mess up the ink.

I asked the same question awhile back b/c I also have scars I don’t like. You may find more answers to your question. Here’s the link: http://www.fluther.com/disc/53527/will-i-face-any-problems-if-i-get-a-tattoo-over/

I have a tattoo over where I used to cut as a pledge that I’d never do it again. It’s incredibly meaningful and one of the best things I’ve ever done.

It really depends on the type of scar it is.
Cutting scars are usually thin, and not raised. Those can be tattooed over easily. I have wrist tattoos over minor scars (you’d never notice them unless you were really looking).

Yep, you sure can. Mastectomy patients have them done quite often.

I don’t see why not. I have 2 that are covering some little scars.
