Why can't we make a humanoid robot?

Why can’t we combine animatronics, RealDoll™, voice recognition, simple command interpretation (old Infocom text games), optical pattern recognition, and speech generation, to create a first-generation humanoid robot?

We probably could. I’ll bet you there are people out there who have, or are trying to.
the problem is the complex hand eye coordination touch something gently or grab hard is very complex even though it seems so simple to us to program it isnt as easy as you think because of all the scenarios involved think about it in just one day how many different situations come up that you have to stop look touch /push/grab/pull/twist and all that involves seeing hearing touching and limitations it is not as easy you might think
Meet my boss sometime and ask that. I dare you.
@master_mind413 I don’t expect the first generation to be able to use hand-eye coordination to pick things up. Just follow simple commands (like an old Infocom text game) like, STAND, WALK FORWARD 5 METERS, TURN RIGHT 90 DEGREES, etc., etc. The fancy stuff can wait until the third or fourth generation…
@master_mind413: Some of us don’t know how to begin and end a sentence. Baby steps.
We have already. Or rather, the nifty Japanese have. Know Asimo? 2 legs, 2 arms, one head, a backpack, can walk, climb stairs, can run, a version at a German university can do shape and object recognition, learning, and decision making, (e.g. decide whether a new object belongs to a certain group or not, based on an analysis of its physical properties).
This is in the sex thread… I’ll assume u r looking for a sex doll… great Q… but in the meantime…
As for the real doll… I have seen robots that aim to look real, and they are just creepy. I prefer the cute Asimo style of robot. I think I could emotionally bond easier with one of those than one of those creepy dolls.
Pbs did a show with the guy from mash about robots. And they are very, very close to it.
here he is, the cute asimo.
@THEDELLS : The guy from Mash is a respected and well-known actor and popularizer named Alan Alda.
Real Doll?
I don’t think an android sex slave is the killer app.
…yet…
Isn’t there some space show with a knockout android… who can’t say no…
“We” meaning… you and who else? I can tell you why I can’t do it: I don’t have the skillz or the patience or the artistry.
@proXXi – LoL! I beg to differ…the android sex slave will definitely be the killer app when androids come onto the market!
There’s an iPhone app (and for the life of me I can’t remember the name of it) where you try to give a computer girl an orgasm by rubbing her clit/rubbing the screen with your finger. The faster you go the louder she moans.
@HungryGuy That’s why my post included the word ‘yet’.
@Allie That is very risque young lady… I just might report you to a moderator!
@Allie – Oh my! That app might just make me give in and get one of those stupid iPhones… :-p
