What would be your Dream Job?

Asked by scotsbloke (3756points) December 13th, 2009

Let’s face it, a lot of us are, at one point in our lives, in a job we dont like much but have little or no choice about.
So…...in an ideal world….....What would be YOUR dream job.?

Personally, I’d love to go back to Entertaining. Many years ago I was a Radio Deejay, Mobile Disco DJ, Karaoke presenter, singer in a band and M.C. it was great fun, didnt earn much cash though. I found the Disco scene change quite drastically in the late 90’s and I moved on but for nearly 20 years I really enjoyed it. I’d love to get back into Radio or presenting but it’s a hard employment to get these days. I wouldnt go back to deejaying though….....lol
so, you?

The job I have now with the federal government. In fact, I’m often asked why I won’t put in for promotions.

I’m good at what I do and the pay is not too shabby.

Why rock the boat?

My dream job is completely unfeasible.

I’d like to get paid to shoot guns in the jungle while illegally collecting valuable artifacts.
Oh, and I’d teach at a university (that part, I’m actually working on).

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard So… you want to be Lara Croft?

My dream job is to manage a small business. Since it’s my imagination I can be picky. I want to manage an artsy cafe with live jazz and local artists displayed on the walls. Preferably it will be either a wine bar or a coffee shop. Most of the management jobs available now are soul-sucking positions like working at Subway or something.

Otherwise, I want to teach English or be a translator in China. But right now my Chinese sucks. I’ve graduated from ni hao Kai Lan, which is basically Dora the Explorer with Chinese. Now I’m watching da tou er zi xiao tou baba (big head son, little head father… don’t ask) which I think is for Chinese four year olds. But I can only understand about half of it. So if I moved to China right now I’d be outsmarted by a bunch of four year olds… not exactly teacher material.

@Haleth I was thinking Indiana Jones, but Lara Croft works too

I want to start a business where I would design, build, and paint furniture and home decor from recycled materials; write about the process for magazines; and sell the end results, too.

Haleth's avatar

@Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard I don’t know why I thought of Lara Croft before Indiana Jones. Breasts, probably.

@augustlan That sounds like a lot of fun. There’s a store near where I live that does that, and they’re very successful. I’ve seen some cool industrial design thesis projects that were along the same lines. I’ve done a few projects upgrading furniture that I’ve gotten for free, by reupholstering them or applying new finish, and gotten some great stuff out of it.

The idea of owning a coffee shop is appealing; I like baking breakfast goods and soup/sandwiches and chatting it up with people as if you couldn’t tell

Haleth's avatar

@Judi I had forgotten that people do that all the time successfully. I think that it would be really hard for me to go to a foreign country if I didn’t speak the language fluently, just because I wouldn’t know what I was doing. I’m pretty hapless most of the time.

In the real world, I would be a humanitarian aid worker. I’m working on it.

In a fantasy world (one in which I am rediculously smart, and there is no need for aid workers) I would like to be an astonaut! =)

I always wanted to work in an Ice Cream Factory, then when I was younger I did and the smell I thought I loved so much began to make me sick!

Mind you, being Beyonce’s personal dresser has a certain appeal!!! lol

Owning a book store/ coffee shop in a town near the ocean. mounds on new and used books, easy chairs, used ornaments to decorate and sell. At presnt this store is owned by people in Lethbridge so I’d have to transport it to Oregon, near Seaside.
