How do I stop Windows Update from continuously updating/downloading Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool?

I always have an “Updates are ready for your computer” notification and it’s always the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. No matter how many times I install this update, there’s always a new update waiting to be installed. Any suggestions?

Go to control panel, click on security, click on automatic updates, change the setting to notify me first.
Thank you so much! Next question…How do I remove the notification that the same download is ready from the taskbar?
I left that information on your profile but I’ll do it again. Do not let it automatically install. Look at the updates before installing. That way you are in control and get to choose. Its easy, when you need to update, read everything. It will take you through a step by step process.
Well, the problem is it keeps notifying me for the same thing.
I changed the Windows Update setting in the taskbar to “Always Hide”. Out of site, out of mind. Thank you!
It won’t be popping up anymore. You’re welcome.
Microsoft update the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool every month to remove new malicious stuff. It is not a one time only deal.
@Lightlyseared It seems to update a little more often than that, but you are correct that it’s not a one-shot thing.
@Lightlyseared: Every month? Try every friggin’ second my pc is on. I don’t know whether it’s an update error or a pc setting error…I haven’t been able to identify it…but it’s annoying as hell. Right now it’s hidden so at least I don’t have to look at it.
@SABOTEUR I get it about weekly/bi-weekly it seems, but there are many times where I won’t see it for 5–10 days.
@jerv: Wish I could be so lucky. Thanks, jerv.
You could just switch to Linux :D
If you truly don’t want one of the updates from Microsoft, then go to windows update and on the site you can choose which update to never receive again, in other words block them. I did this for IE8 as it has some bad issues as for the update your talking about its one I let go though, I have my update set where it must ask me to install, they can download but not install till I look at them first. being a tech I choose to look before they go on my PC
