I just don’t have the energy to research this. Which is better for the casual listener and for importing to iTunes?

Stereo of course! Mono is sold for much money too and i believe it will deliver the old feeling only at the right system. I enjoy the album “LOVE” for example that is remastered and with better audio quality. why choose mono?
Mono was the original mix for all albums through the White Album. It was the only mix the Beatles were involved in and the one they preferred. Stereo mixes were thrown together as an afterthought to respond to the then-emerging stereo hifi market.
Make a decision based on that info.
Stereo, it being remastered would sound a lot better.
stereo if you have a normal cd player, nothing fancy
mono if you buy those bang & olufsen speakers with the box set :s
I have both sets but I haven’t listened to them yet. I suspect that the mono versions will be better because, as @PupnTaco said, those were the ones The Beatles oversaw. The stereo versions were made by sound engineers and they included annoying effects, like having the sound move from left to right, or putting the voices in the right channel and the instruments in the left, for no apparent reason.
But all things considered, I’m sure they both sound excellent as they spent four years remastering both mixes.
