Although Fluther is growing popular, I personally don’t think it’s fast enough considering how awesome and effective a platform it is. I mean I heard about Fluther when reading a web page on ‘Hot startups in Web 2.0’. There’s not much word about it on the net. Contrary to this, just look at how popular twitter got in such a short span of time.
So what can we jellies do to bring more lurve in?

We can add the badges and banners to our blogs and web sites.
(See your account! They are there!)
Integrate your account to FP, AIM etc if you have such accounts.
Word of mouth- tell cool people. (Seriously- find the really cool ones and tell them and don’t tell jerks.)
And of course…. the Fluther tee shirt!
Could tell all your friends. I wouldn’t bother telling any of mine though, none of them would join. Haha :)
Since AB sucks so much now!
I think all of AB by new years will be here.
Tell ur friends family about it so they get addicted 2. Lol
Fluther isn’t for everyone. I think it is advertised as it should be. I’d kill myself if this became the next facebook, etc.
Yahoo Answers is really popular.
Wet T-shirt contest every Thursday?
@pjanaway same here, my friends dont buy the concept either. Gotta use it to feel it
I would rather it stay like it is. The close knit atmosphere is a real turn-on for me.
Yahoo answers is loaded with spam and the moderators are seldom seen.
@johnpowell I feel Yahoo Answers are sort of superficial, this place is miles ahead
It’s like a family at this site, must agree!!
Quantity does not equal quality.
My point was that you don’t have to be the biggest to be the best.
Popularity is not necessarily a good thing. The good thing about Fluther is there aren’t so many people that the question you ask will immediately be lost in the fluff. Personally, I think it would be terrible if Fluther became really popular.
@johnpowell I second that. BTW what happened at answerbag that people are migrating here?
This suggestion may not seem directly related to popularity, but they could enhance the site’s user-friendliness, which could in turn attract more users.
1. Could the site have a comments function so that users can individually comment on each other’s answers without derailing the overall discussion?
I tried yahoo answers before, from the looks of it, its like 90% spam. Here on the other hand its probably less than 1%. So if you think about it, its probably better if the site slowly grows because then the site can adapt to the growth so it can be moderated efficiently.
The people here are sensible, hate spam, don’t go flaming and are kind to each other. I guess that’s this site’s core
I’m still getting used to the influx of new faces. Even thinking about adding on more people makes my brain leak out of my ears a little bit.
I think it’s popular emough right at the moment thanks to the AnswerBagger influx! Every time I log on, I have 50 questions and 50 bits of activity waiting. If it gets any more popular, I will have to give up sleeping, eating and working!
Girls of Fluther calendar. Need I say more?
I think AnswerBag is doing a great job of making Fluther more popular. You don’t have to do a thing! :)
I do not believe you want it to be, do you? I am sorry that we make you (and others) feel uncomfortable by our presence.
@delirium: MIlo here; discriminating, are you? How about Studmuffins of Fluther also. Otherwise, all that work at the gym will be wasted. Gail is so unappreciative.
It should start naked Fridays !!
Screaming car-commercial-narrator television ads.
It totally matches that Fluthery atmosphere, if you asked me
@Poopy No! New members are always welcome. We just value our tight knits. We hope you will all enjoy it and become a part of it. Like it was said above, quantity does not equal quality.
WACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM FLAILING TUBEMEN!
@Clair YES! That TOTALLY goes with the TV ads!
Studmuffins of Fluther calendar. Need I say more?
Pretty kitties of Fluther?
I know: Ask a lot of questions about fluther on other Q&A sites.
@delirium: Milo here; Good. Now I can shop for that Speedo and charge it to business expenses. Let me know when hair and make-up people will be arriving.
@Poopy I don’t want more people just for the sake of it. But if there’s something so unique and amazing in my life I tend to share it with others. I believe others may find it useful as well
@ Clair, this is our tight knits. However, I can see why someone would feel uncomfortable. Especially, with this big of a crowd.
I like that fluther has, for the most part, grown organically. I agree with the fluther veterans; popularity isn’t necessarily a desirable goal.
Check the comments at youtube. That is pain.
@johnpowell Youtube comments are totally spam and weird. Not related to the video most of the times
@Poopy Oh yea! I was most certainly intimidated when I first came. And I use the word ‘intimidated’ because that’s exactly what it was. But it wasn’t this big of a crowd before the migration. And it was a lot more laid back.
@ anoop66, in time, I hope you see that I am not here to waste time.
Youtube is 100% spam.. lol
By allowing someone to respond one on one instead of one long string.
@ Clair, smile. I would of felt the same way.
@Poopy We are pleased to have you here. Welcome to fluther!!
@ anoop66, I will earn that welcome. Will you save it until I do?
The problem with being popular is that that would mean catering to the +xT-tiPiN t33nz, the political extremists who blame Obama for tooth decay, religious zealots who claim Jesus could not be tempted because He had no penis (I wish I were kidding, but I’ve heard that argument before), and other people that I really don’t want to deal with. To think otherwise is to place much more faith in humanity than I am capable of.
I mean, look at Twitter. Do you really care if someone just changed their socks and decided to let the world know? having thousands of “stream of conciousness” posts here would drive the admins and/or the users here totally batshit crazy within an hour.
So which one are you @jerv
What’s wrong w yahoo answers
lurvin the fact that fluther grows with its lurve and popularity because of the like minded people on here. I only tell really good friends about it!!!
@Mandomike – I am politically independent, religiously Agnostic, and anti-bullshit. However, many call me a Liberal because I have a history of opposing people who go so far to the Right that they leave their brains behind while leaving the Far Left alone. The truth is merely that I feel they are so obviously out-there and nobody takes them seriously so they are not a viable threat the way Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are. The truth is that I just wish the GOP would return to their roots so I could actually vote Republican without feeling like a traitor to my country.
I have been called all sorts of other stuff by people I feel take Religion too far; beleive what you want but don’t cram it down our throats! Between those facts and being a smart-ass, many people eitehr love me or hate me but few are neutral
I know you from AB jerv. To say that you wish you could vote for a Republican is a stretch but I respect your opinion at any rate. It’s good to see you here.
@Mandomike – I was ready to vote McCain until he named his running mate. Anyways, nice to see you here too.
It’s going way too fast for me lately
More popular isn’t what we’re going for. We want insight, quality, and sincerity. Not crap like on other sites.
I would like to see flurther grow and evolve maybe add a few more features but otherwise for now I am content the way it is and rather like it, that of course does not mean there is no room for some improvement at all
It would help to get the moderators to relax a little, sometimes a stupid question just needs a stupid answer
@NadaNormal I know people who are very good at providing those :D
@jerv I have been guilty on both counts more than once
@NadaNormal @jerv: The lack of really stupid questions is what makes Fluther special. There are plenty of other sites for being doltish and finding an audience.
@gailcalled , So you are the authority on what a good question is? On what a stupid question is? I think I will hang around just to make you wish I hadn’t.
Actually… she kind of is.
@Mandomike – Do you honestly miss all the “Am I pregnant?” or “What is this pill?” questions?
Admit it, there are some stupid questions.
@Mandomike gailcalled has been here for over three years. She knows the ropes. I only hope I turn out to be half the jelly she is! Yay gailcalled!
@Mandomike: Fluther tends to reject an incompatible tentacle, if history is to be believed.
I tend to like a site where opinion is excepted whether you think it is at your level or not,,What if the FlutherUppers are Liberals, then us Flutherservatives don’t have a chance, I think we need to take everyone’s opinions into account.
Flutherites listen to and accept all opinions if they are clearly written and comprehensible. Disagreeing is fine; we liberals like to debate with you conservatives as long as one is courteous and reasonable.
She’s also our oldest and most amazing member ever.
@gailcalled Yeah, I kind of figured that this place was more interested in intelligent conversation than in agendas.
@Mandomike I feel that the “Liberal” label tends to be applied a little too… well, liberally. I mean, I’ve heard G.W. Bush and Colin Powell accused of being Liberals! However, discussing that here would be thread-jacking though, so I’ll leave it at that for now.
To make a site become popular, you need a SEO service. The SEO will do all to make your site popular in a natural way.
