How do you take a screenshot of something?
I’m entering a contest, and one of the directions say, “Take a screenshot of your profile.” Can someone tell me what that means? i really need to enter this contest.

Print Screen Button up there >^
edit… then CTRL V in word or whatever… is how I do it! x
Do you have a mac or a PC? For a mac, hit apple-shift-three.
Press the Print Screen key (top left on your keyboard usually) and then paste it in to an image editing program such as Paint.
Or you can use software designed for this use such as !Quick
I’m on the iPhone so it’s really easy. Just press the two buttons simultaneously for a sec and then release. The screen shot is automatically in your photos.
@anon I can’t find the Print Screen key.
Sometimes it’s says Prt Scrn (or something similar) and shares the key with SysRq (also might say something similar).
Nothing will seem to happen when you press it but you can then paste it into your image editing software.
“Ctrl” and “Print Screen”. Then paste into a program like Paint and then “Save As” whatever.. e.g jpg.
@MarkyMark You really don’t need to press Ctrl… Or maybe that’s just me? :/
AHHHHH!!! I found the button and I did that whole thing. But Paint won’t let me paste it!
If you just want the active window, you can hold Alt down when you press Print Screen too.
@ anon…I just tried it without pressing Ctrl and it worked. Mmmmm….don’t know why I was doing that. Thanx for that. ;-)
Uh, I don’t have Paint so I can’t really see what the problem might be. You could try that software I suggested in my first post?
@MarkyMark Heh, no worries. I thought I might have been special or something :)
if it isn’t working for you could try an app like Ashampoo Magical Snap. I think they’ve got a free version.
Personally, I run Firefox with the “FireShot” add-on so I can get not only the screen, but the whole page, including the parts of it that don’t appear on-screen.
@anon – If you have Windoze, you have Paint unless you did a custom install. It’s under Programs—> Accessories. However, for pasting clipboard shots I prefer XnView . Even if you just hit PrtSc, you can just open up XnView and hit Ctrl+Shift+V to import the clipboard and viola!
Ok. I figured out that I could just send in a link instead of the screenshot. But thanks for all of your help anyway! Sorry to put you through all of this trouble! :S
No trouble; it’s what we’re here for.
@jerv Yeah, I have most of the junk and unnecessary programs removed. :)
No worries @rentluva5256 ;D
In Linux you just hit PrintScreen (Prnt Scrn) and a little window pops up asking what filename you want to save as. The screenshot is saved into PNG format. No need for any extra applications.
