What will current 20/30-somethings be like as "old folks"?

Asked by SundayKittens (5834points) December 14th, 2009

When my generation gets to be the “old folks”, what will we be like? Will we have sagging tattoos and bad attitudes as 70 year old grandparents? Can we ever be as humble and well thought-of as “The Greatest Generation”? And what about the sentimental things like photographs? It’s so special to look at old sepia photos of my family from the Depression era….will my grandkids even care to look at the 3000 digital photos of me? Talk amongst yuhselves…

We are going to be awesome, I can see it already, instead of Lawrence Welk playing in the nursing homes, it’ll be Pearl Jam and Snoop Dogg. We’ll have sagging tattoos, and have grandpas and grandmas with piercings and spacers in their ears, talking about mosh pits and extreme sports.

@babyblue that’s exactly what I was imagining…and the kids will be wondering who Kurt Cobain is. And that will result in a backhand and a story about “back in my day”.

It’s kind of sad that a lot of things we know and love today will be lost with us

@delta214 That’s true of almost every generation.

You shall also realize that you are old when the music you listen to is now “classic rock” like I was shocked when GnR’s “Sweet Child of Mine” hit the oldies stations.

We’ll have physical pictures from our childhood. I picture having Wii nights, making mix tapes for the hottie down the hall and trying to bring back flannel. And we will be loud and have the cops called on us old Grannies.

“Excuse me ma’am, but could you keep it down?”
“Whatsa matter sonny? You can’t handle the rock?”
“It’s just that it’s 3 am and the kids-”
“HA! Screw your kids! I’m old and I’m lookin to get down!”

@thriftymaid That’s an unfair generalization. Some of us would love to commit, if we had someone to commit to.
