Some parents try to compensate for not spending enough time with their children by showering them with more gifts than other parents while some just want to shower gifts on their kids out of love. Please give me your take on this.

I don’t have children of my own but there is a little girl I found out about that wants a certain doll.I’ll see that she gets it.:)
I go more by an overall budget than number of gifts. There’s usually one pretty substantial gift and then I fill in with what’s left.
I got my DD hooked on vintage clothing, so I’m able to shop and stash cool goodies year round and present on gift giving occasions. Not all kids would be thrilled to receive a 70s vintage leather blazer, or a pair of 50s stilettos.
My grown children live in Seattle. my wife and i live in Nashville. thats roughly 3,000 miles away. for years we have mailed their Christmas gifts in plenty of time for Christmas. how many gifts do we send? as the years have passed and the cost of mailing continues to rise, we are discussing just mailing gift cards to everyone. i have a problem with this for two reasons: its cold and there are no presents to open. its December 14 th and we will still have not made a decision. sending them presents has been a tradition for many years. would a gift card be accepted in lieu of presents or would our children feel offended? we do not have an answer and we do not want to ask this question to our children. what will be the final descision? who knows.
@john65pennington : I quite agree with you about not having presents to open. the joy of tearing open a wrapper and the anticipation is just not there in a card. I’m sure you will think of something. Thank you for sharing.
@lucillelucillelucille : That is the true spirit of Christmas.
@MagsRags : Wow . I’d love to get vintage clothes too. unfortunately…
A Very Merry Christmas to all of you.
I don’t celebrate Christmas but my kids get gifts for the New Year’s celebration and that’s 1–2 each
When my son was very young it was great.
He would get a pile of dollar stuff. and a couple of choice things.
Once he understood the value of the dollar he got less. No longer impressed with balloon cars and rubber frogs. But still gets a few.
