Is the book Oration At Valley Forge by Henry Armitt Brown, worth anything?
I was cleaning out my basement when I found this bound copy of “Oration At Valley Forge” by Henry Armitt Brown. I did some research and this book is only one of 100 bound copies, stuck with the imprint of the Christopher Sower press in phili. It has a copyright date of 1911. It’s in perfect condition. Does anyone know if it would be worth anything?

Look on Amazon.com for it. See what people are selling it for. Also, I think eBay has a feature that shows books that have sold in the last 2 weeks or so. See if any of those have been that book and how much they’ve sold for.
G’day dogkittycat,
Thank you for your question.
Quite likely depending on its condition and the demand for the book. I would go and see an antique dealer to get an expert opinion.
Regards
The going rate on a paperback version is $30+
If there is only 100 in existance, an antique dealer is your best source
Check out the Antique Book Exchange at www.abebooks.com. You can get in touch with an antiquarian book dealer, or just see what the going rate is.
Swann Galleries is an auction house in Manhattan specializing in books, photographs and works on paper. They are extremely well run and have a sterling reputation. An expert will speak to you on the telephone and give you an idea what your book would bring at auction. One strong caveat: lay people often misunderstand the way experts rate condition. Before you tell them that it’s in “perfect” condition, google condition requirements for rare books. That will help you make a better estimate of its actual condition.
Here is a link to Swann.
The genre of this book for collecting purposes is Americana.
