You just put a little oil on it, and then put it in the oven on low for an hour or so.

what @La_chica_gomela said.

More specifically, Extra Light Extra Virgin Olive oil gives a nice neutral flavor to the pan.

I prefer Canola. :-)

G’day Azlotto,

Thank you for your question.

This link contains some useful information on seasoning cast iron cookwear. link

If it is new, heat the oven to 250–300 degrees. Coat the pan with lard or bacon grease. After 15 minutes remove the pan from the oven and clear out excess grease. Then put it back in and back for 2 hours.

I have to agree; bacon grease does a better job.
Then again, I cooked bacon often enough that my cast iron seasoned itself pretty quickly on the stovetop. I had an 8” skillet slipprier than any Teflon.

Speaking of the ‘non-stickiness’ though. Have you ever had a cast-iron skillet seasoned enough to cook an egg on without needing some sort of fat on there just prior?

@andrew Yes, that 8” one.

Cover your new piece with oil and put in a 250 over for 1.5 hours. Never put in the dishwasher. Oil it after using and washing. If it’s a long time before you use it again, wash before using as the oil can go rancid.

I use oil and then either pop it in the oven or use the fire pit to heat it for a couple of hours. I LOVE Cast Iron!!!
