What is the most bizarre behaviour you have seen from an animal?

Asked by FireMadeFlesh (16603points) December 14th, 2009

Animals often display strange and surprising characteristics, such as lions adopting antelope. I know of a dog that somehow climbed trees, but I think this octupus is the most bizarre I have seen. What is the strangest animal behaviour you know of?

Slug reproduction. I know it sounds normal but trust me, once you see it you’ll know what I mean. It’s beyond description.

We have had a completely declawed cat that could run up trees faster than the clawed ones. The same cat also knew 10 minutes before my alarm would go off and would wake me up by him saying “hew-ro” over and over to me. He could open doors with his paws and actually taught the other cats how to “respect” us (kept them off the kitchen table, staying out from under our feet) Best cat that ever owned me, lol. I miss him so much.

The most bizarre behavior I’ve ever seen is human.

My cat once peed in my purse. I think she was punishing me because I came home too late and she was lonely. How could I get angry at her for that?!

My parents dog pulling on his Weiner then humping his own face with it.

I honestly didn’t know what to think.

My roommate has an unfathomably stupid dog and another dog that tolerates him. Sometimes when I walk them there are close calls. The stupid dog is completely oblivious to his surroundings. Though he is a terrier and his nose is about a foot off the ground I have had to yank him violently to keep him from ambling through fresh dog shit. Even worse, another time I had to yank him out of the way when he, again obliviously, cosied up to the other dogs rear as she popped a squat.

What’s worse is if I hadn’t yanked him out of the way I don’t think he would have even realized he was covered in shit.

Monkeys smoking cigarettes and drinking beer… though it’s not natural behaviors, humans get them addicted to the stuff.

I saw a picture of a mother tiger whose cubs had died suckling baby pigs that had her cub’s skin wrapped round their middles.

I watched a baby bird being eaten by a blue jay out my kitchen window

How mother cats eat the after birth. I know it’s nutritious, and they’re going on instinct, but it still flips me out.

I once saw a pigeon eating a piece of orange chicken that had fallen on the sidewalk. Creeped me out like crazy… not to mention the pigeon had a club foot, so it was even weirder looking.

@stratman37 Just FYI… it’s not only nutritious, but it releases a chemical in their brains that make them feel trusting and affectionate. If it weren’t for that, they may abandon the kittens.

My pit licks windows and the fridge and my walls obssessively but she’s not the smartest dog. And we just had a baby a pig here at the shelter who liked to hump the dogs and the employees.

@lovemypits86 My cat licks the windows obsessively, haha. I think he likes the moisture that collects on them.
