Did the Fluther guys actively try to seduce AnswerBaggers to come here all at once?
I can’t understand how so many AnswerBaggers could flock HERE all at the same time.
Why HERE?
Is it because the Fluther people went onto AnswerBag and tried to lure people over here?
Or did AnswerBaggers all tell each other to come to Fluther?

As one of the Answerbag refugees, I wasn’t contacted by Fluther in any way. A whole bevvy of my friends from there started dropping me PMs in AB saying where they had gone. I wouldn’t have blamed Fluther for reaching out, but don’t know how they could have done it without completely hacking AB to get their mailing list.
I just saw somewhere on the AB forums someone mentioning it, and came to check it out. Denno if anybody seduced anyone.
Oh yeah totally. Someone offered to give me like 7 blow jobs. Someone else offered to wash my dog. I got people painting the trim to my apartment right now. I figured something was poppin’ over here and decided to join.
@Vunessuh How did you know what was poppin’ over here?
People on my AB friends list gave me the address and I came over. No one from Fluther contacted me.
@Confuscious You too? Too bad. I thought there was some intrigue here. Sounds more like a massive grassroots consensus all at the same time.
Someone on AB mentioned Fluther so I checked it out. @SeventhSense Haha!
@colliedog No intrigue, sorry.
You might be interested to know that someone claiming to be from Fluther is over at AB telling people to stay away from Fluther because you guys don’t want us here. Sorry for him/her, but until someone on this site tells me to my face to leave and it is backed up by admin, I’m staying.
@Confuscious I wonder if that’s someone from AnswerBag pretending to be from Fluther to make Fluther look bad. I doubt Fluther would turn away new members. I would think they’re nothing but delighted about all this. After all, they posted a very prominent banner here to welcome AnswerBaggers. That should be an indication of something.
G’day Colliedog,
Thank you for your question.
I received PM’s from fellow baggers. However, while I will remain active on Fluther, I am likely at this stage to be more active on Answerbag. The new system is improving and it is more suitable to my needs. Thanks to people on Fluther for the hospitality.
Regards
For the record this isn’t the first time this has happened. There was an exodus from Wis.dm early in the year. I think it’s just a matter people forming a community and when they get uprooted they want to preserve the community by finding a new home for it.
And I think we mostly love new people here anyways. We got a lot of amazing new jellies from Wis.dm and it looks like we’re getting even more now. Just don’t tell your trolls where you’ve gone.
yes it was a plot! there was even a welcome forum, ..and its great here
no one seduced me into coming here although i wish i had been :P I was told by some friends of course no one was forced into coming here..
@keithold What do you like more about Answerbag? I’ve never tried it.
Welcome to the collective refugees.
I came for the subscription rates: $39/month vs. $299/month; isn’t that fair enough? Now I have more money for Cruises in Alaska.
I wasn’t contacted by anyone. I left that train wreck in disgust, stumbled in here and was made cordially welcome.
A lot of people on AB mentioned that they were going to Fluther. That’s how I heard about it.
a few of my friends have come here from answerbag and i thought i would give it a try, i dont knock it till i try it first. i like fluther so far its friendly ;)
I don’t think so, if we were not unhappy with AB we would have stayed.
The Anonymous Witch convinced me to come over. I’m happy about that.
First there were AnswerIt, then for a flash – Yahoo (eeuwee), then AnswerBag, then came Fluther….... Im still there, now also here and luv, luv all the answerings!!!!
No, it was just really that bad over there. When Lex and the others made those horrible changes they took away everything most of us loved about the site, then we were told, “If you don’t like it you can leave.” That made it clear to me that even if they fixed a few things, the atmosphere was forever changed.
Before Thursday if someone had tried to get me to use Fluther instead of Answerbag I wouldn’t have even looked at the site.
we were told, “If you don’t like it you can leave.”
@missyb Rather odd and not too smart.
when a ship sinks ,,, you live amoungst the jellyfish. ;-)
@colliedog I honestly think that was just one guy in one moment of sheer frustration. They were getting attacked left and right with criticism, mostly non-constructive, but still, it was out of line.
@missyb I do not remember anyone saying if you don’t like it you can leave. Was this in a private message? As I have read all the blogs and forums and can not find that.
@GingerMinx—I haven’t seen the AB staff say that either; however I’ve heard more than one person make the claim. :/
Personally, I was referred here by an email from an AB friend.
I never saw any mention of Fluther on AB, but I was also amongst the first to go so I don’t know if I got any AB PMs or if there were any posts directing others here.
@colliedog I am guessing our friend Keithold was not happy about the three question limit. He loves asking questions.
If they did, I missed the memo.
@YARNLADY I love Keitholds questions. I don’t know how he comes up with so many so fast.
@YARNLADY that he loves to do, if he can ask 10 or more every 30min hes happy lol the man has a lot he wants to know.
@GingerMinx his mind never stops just keeps going. if it stopped he just would not know what to do.
i heard him say something about it a long time ago, its rather interesting how his mind works gues thats why i always wait to see what he does next (never can know)
It was getting old there anyway (sour grapes?) sitting for hours at a time, giving stupid answers to silly questions. At the end, I was answering 200+ questions a day for an average of 4.1 points per answer. Just point-obsession, seeing how fast I could rise in the rankings. Really silly, looking back at it. I should be grateful they pulled the plug, but like any addict, I’m not,
@stranger_in_a_strange_land That sounds more like your choice than AB. I was never there for the points. Laughs and considering how many questions you answered I could never have competed anyway.
@GingerMinx It was a competitive game, nothing more. There was a group of “askers” like Keithold and NUNYA and another group of “answerers” like myself. We would award each other points as quickly as the system allowed without any attention to quality of Q or A. Just to move up the point ladder as quickly as possible. I did 52 levels in 30 days, might be a record? Totally silly really, as the points had no meaning.
Like some other people mentioned, I logged onto AB for the first time since the update, went blind from the obnoxious layout, recovered, then saw a question that was similar to “Are you going to switch to Fluther?”
I have been double-dipping between Fluther and AB since March, and when I found the melt-down, I posted the reference to Fluther on several questions asking about alternative sites, some others picked up on it, and used their Yahoo Chat, plus other social sharing resources, and wow.
No I don’t believe so. They were just welcoming and we seemed to like it here :)
@YARNLADY I think it was one of your postings that I saw when I was about to jump. I didn’t know there were any other sites other than AB and YA and I had left YA out of boredom some time before. I was about to switch off the computer and get a life again. :^)
LOL…if only it was so insidious!
Personally speaking, the incentive to leave was there the moment I discovered the changes. No one needed to convince me.
The only question I had was where to go?
While in the process of dusting off my YAOO! Answers account, I stumbled across a post that mentioned Fluther. Don’t know who posted it or what the post was about. (Probably the result of a query I made of “sites like Answerbag”). Since I was at work, I made a mental note to follow up on Fluther when I got home.
Came home that evening, found Fluther and joined.
It was that simple.
There was a mention of Fluther in a comment with the suggestion that we try it. And I did!
But I am totally open to retroactive bribery and seduction!
@Jewel Not me. Gone for good. I’m sure Lex is happy now. NUNYA and I were taking turns calling him rude names in the blog. My last blog posting accused him of attempted fraud; by not allowing us to delete our names and avatars they are creating a false impression that they have more active users than they do, and can thus demand higher rates for advertising.
Mountain Momma sent me an e-mail telling me where everyone had landed. I looked into it and found that I really like it here. AB has been having problems for a while and I think they stopped listening to what we liked and what we wanted from them. I was very pleased to find so many of my AB friends here and I look forward to making new Fluther friends as well.
Not me, I was contacted by a friend and since I really didn’t like the changes, decided to check it out. So far, I really like it. The people here seem to be very friendly. Also when they basically said “love it or leave it”...well..let’s just say I don’t do well with ultimatums.
I felt obligated after they gave me a new car.
I heard it through the grapevine.
I wasn’t exactly seduced right away. I was wary of this site, and was going to give the new Answerbag a try.
Though, once I realized everyone awesome leaving for this place and that the points weren’t coming back, this site started looking a lot more appealing.
my new car has just been delivered! top that answerbag!
@strange1 Are you gonna take us all for a ride???? They didn’t offer me a car but I am cleaning the kitchen to make room for the gourmet chef they are sending!!!!!!!
@strange1 I don’t think they have to give him anything now, since he’s already here and everything. Hahah…
@strange1 I think you’re right. Maybe we could share…......
@SABOTEUR Strange1 will pick you up in the new car and drive you to my place for a gourmet meal….......ok??
@baileysmom12 unfortunatley theres no road tax or insurance yet
@SABOTEUR you may be surprised yet!
@ClubJenna he did come over to where the grass is greener with evryone else?
@strange1 Yeah, he should just try and enjoy the great company Fluther keeps. @SABOTEUR There that’s the gift for coming over!
@ClubJenna : You’re right, of course. Thanks.
(Who want’s to pay friggin’ taxes on a new car, anyway…?)
they asked me if i had a structured settlement but need cash now ......;-)
@stranger_in_a_strange_land Regarding the points-race, it should tell you something that I avereged less than a level a month and there were people there who had passed me after less than a month on AB.
The only time the points really mattered to me was when I got an anonymous DR. If someone has a problem with me, I like to know why.
As for accusing Lex of fraud, put it on a petition and I’ll put my (electronic) signature on it… so long as I don’t have to log into AB to do so.
