How do I lose my incipient belly fat?

Asked by smile1 (493points) December 15th, 2009

I’ve noticed my belly fat has been slowly growing in the past 2 months. Now its beginning to be very noticeable. How do I get rid of it?

Getting rid of it naturally, of course. I dont want to take those weird vitamin supplements nor those strange diets.
I’ve been just doing situps. But will mere exercise work? Should i run more? I dont drink sodas very often (less than once a month), but eat cookies as snacks…. Change my diet? (obviously cut down on the sweets….but what else? is there some specific food that I shouldnt eat?)

Sit-ups work the wrong muscles. Do leg lifts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ0u7B0fxAU), and run. I know running sucks, but it’s the only way to burn the fat. Obviously cut the sweets out of your diet if you’re committed to this.

Running is one of the best ways to lose belly fat.

Up your activity a little, and think about what you’re eating. Don’t diet, just ask yourself if you need the cookie. I park in the far reaches of parking lots, and take stairs, not elevators.

Situps, crunches etc are great for the supporting muscles, but to get rid of fat, you have to use more calories than you eat.

Exercises for your core will strengthen the muscles underneath, which is good. To remove the fat you need to do aerobic exercise.

I’ve heard in my gym that ‘spot reduction’ doesn’t work well. It’s the boring, old stuff – eat less, cut down on the cookies, and certainly do exercise. Strengthening your core should help firm up muscles, but I do think most of us have a tendency to flab up a bit as we age.

It’s simple. Your calories burned must be greater than calories consumed over the long-term until you lose the belly fat. Definitely go running or hit the elliptical. If you add weight training to that, you’ll really firm up. Add yoga to the above and you’ll be in killer shape.

Also, eat clean. No carbs after 7PM. Relatively low fat. Cut down on simple carbs, especially, high fructose corn syrup and sugar.
