Do the moderators actively look for questions and answers that need to be modded, or do they solely respond to users flags?

Asked by La_chica_gomela (12594points) December 15th, 2009

Is it possible within the mod set-up to push something to editing that hasn’t been flagged? Just wondering.

Both. With the current heavy influx of users, we’re surveilling the site more actively. Also, since we are still users ourselves, and have the ready capacity to moderate questions, if we see something that is going to be flagged eventually, we will push it to moderation. However, in general, we look at flags when they arrive, especially when the site activity is slow (like in the middle of the night, when, I might add, we’re sleeping gasp).

I basically figured that mods were on watch and were automatically informed of incoming interaction, but I might be wrong. :/

*Except I’m not usually sleeping. :D

@augustlan Are you ever?

augustlan's avatar

@jerv I manage to sneak in 4 to 5 hours of sleep sometime after 6 AM.

I think @augustlan took @richardhenry’s place when he retired ;) he used to have similar sleeping/fluthering patterns…I was always surprised how he could pull what seemed like all-nighters, and when I would wake up he’d still be on! How do you guys do that?!

rich is in the UK, is why.

@andrew I know, but I would usually be in mod mode from sundown (8pm-ish, ‘til about three or four in the morning, off and on, but would see rh on here for that whole time…) then see him on at noon local time, then again in the early afternoon…the boy never slept!!!

off-topic: p/s Andrew you’d give Zagat a run for his/their money their on the restaurants! I was impressed on that other thread

And since so many mods are on this thread it gives me an opportunity to mention I’m unable to go to a members profile (other than my own) to send a PM. You are probably aware of this but, just in case you don’t, I’m letting you know now. I’d send a PM to report this to you but…

I only joined 2 mos ago and google questions were on the no-no list as well as blatant homework q’s. I like to have google questions go to google.

@AstroChuck You can’t? I’m not having that issue. Are you sure it’s not your browser?

shilolo's avatar

@augustlan It only affects some users. Andrew is aware.

@AstroChuck, @augustlan, @shilolo, it’s happening to me too :(

Mods are losing sleep over Fluther? So, everybody, let’s be nice!

janbb's avatar

@mattbrowne No I think the implication is that you have to be an insomniac to be a mod. :-)

shrubbery's avatar

@andrew, now I can’t get to some questions…

rooeytoo's avatar

@shrubbery – me too, @andrew‘s battered face is showing up all over the place!

@janbb – Point taken :-)
