Sites or blogs that have music on auto-play, Is annoying or not?

Asked by anon30 (334points) December 16th, 2009

So, my friend helped me a little with my blog, And the last part I put in was my stream-pad. & When I upload music to my blog, the stream-pad will play it. & The stream-pad is located on the bottom of the browser. & is Attached So people can just scroll up or down While listening & searching for song on the Stream-Pad. (It’s On Auto-Play)

But my friend told me it was kinda annoying and i should take it off. & I said “Nah, my visitors could have something to listen to while they’re on my blog. & they could just search for the music on the stream-pad, and if they find a song they like, they can search for it on my blog pages”

He said “Okay, but in my opinion, its very annoying & you should take it off.”

That was the other day, I left the stream-pad on till today and then I took it off, cause what he told me was getting in my head. But Most sites don’t have music, or at least on auto-play. Well most of the people who visit’s the blog would listen to hip-hop, r&b or rap. And I upload Good Quality music that most would like.

So i’m confused on what to do, have a music player for my blog and have it on auto-play so people know right away what kind of music I put on. Or have it not on Auto-play. But A lot of people are lazy, In my opinion, They would be like ” Oh what is that? I’ma just ignore it and keep looking.”

Or don’t have a music player, and let the visitor’s find the music on my blog and play it for them selfs.

So what do you think my best option would be?

Personally, I find them quite annoying. That is why there are things like NoScript, AdBlock, and other things that block scripts, images, Flash, music, etcetera.

To be honest, it’s annoying as shit. Most people already have their iTunes/something similar playing when they’re on their computers. Keep it simple.

Have you ever browsed while your SO is asleep right behind you. Fuck music that auto-plays. There is a reason I stopped going to myspace.

But would you click on a music player if you see it on a blog or site? if it wasn’t on auto-play?

& @johnpowell lol, but you can’t blame myspace for everything. a lot of great designers/ web coders came learning from using myspace. IMO

I might not click on that music player if it wasn’t on auto-play, but that should be my choice. In fact, if it was anything but a musician’s website (and even then it’s mildly annoying), I would NEVER go back to the website again if they had auto-play on. Very annoying.

So, music player… but not on auto-play is best idea ?

I keep my sound turned off all the time except when I specifically want to hear something. As soon as it’s over, I turn it right back off again.

Annoying. Let users have the options of turning it on or not. What if someone accidentally leaves their volume on loud and go to your website? It would be disruptive if it was late at night.

Okay Thanks!

Yeah, there’s not much that’ll get me to close a site faster than stuff that auto-plays. Let me choose to listen or not, please!

Heres another Blog question. Twitter Feedback? doesn’t it make the page take longer to load them? and does it really matter when you have a twitter link to your twitter anyways?

Want to hear something really funny? I was on the computer for nearly a year before I even knew it made a sound. One day I asked my husband why a greeting he sent me played music on his computer and not on mine. That’s when he showed me the on and off switch. I still keep it off most of the time because the unexpected noises that come out of it from time to time startle me.

I prefer not to have music forced on me. I most probably won’t switch the auto player on either. The volume on my laptop is always off, but often my partner leaves it on when he’s used it. I hate the sudden surprise of sound when I open a page, blog, etc.
So I say no to auto play blurting in my ears without me having a choice in the matter.

Add me to the list… I really dislike being forced to listen to music on any website. If I’m just surfing, I generally close the tab as soon as it starts playing.

It was one of the reasons I got off MySpace a couple of years ago. Every one I knew had a page that started in with the music. Arrrggh! I’m glad no one makes those web pages anymore that when you clicked in, there was all that annoying MIDI crap.

i find it annoying. i am try to read and concentrate and if the music is not the style i prefer i am forced to turn down my speakers.

Music on a website (unless it’s a website for a band and I’m purposefully visiting it to listen to their music), is a surefire way to get me off a website in two seconds flat, and never visit it again.

annoying. I move on immediately.
