Was there an event in your life, or an occasion, that caused you to feel older beyond your years? What was it?

Trying to talk about debate with a bunch of jocks at a high school party… That was a blast.
Just last week I hurt my back and my knees and when I try to bend down to move something my back and knees felt every movement. Boy did I feel old. I’m on 48 but I felt I might as well been 60.
Old, me? you must be kidding!!
When I was 11, the landlord raised the rent of the flat my family and I were living in without offering to make improvements, and my aunt just cried and cried because we had to move within the month and didn’t have a lot of money.
I had to help look for an apartment for us. I scoured the ads, and because I have the standard American accent that she doesn’t, I had to make the inquiry calls so that we wouldn’t be rejected out of hand from seeing a place, if you catch my meaning.
I felt even older than my current actual age, having to be responsible like that, but I had to take a deep breath and get on with it.
How would you know if you felt older If you have never been older? :)
loll. this morning Poopy! Have a good one!
I was about 18 and she was around the 38 mark!
So I’d say 20 years older than I was!
@pjanaway – Well, I’m older now, and I don’t feel even as weary about my current life situation of having no job than I did at 11 trying to comfort an adult and take on an adult responsibility. That’s the only way I know!
When I hugged someone in near their darkest hours, I felt like a father there…
On a more serious note, one night my stepdad had been drinking a bit too much and stormed out of the house and drove off. My step brother, who was 4 years older than me, practically broke down sobbing. I gave him a big hug, and I felt like the big brother for once.
My 14 year old half-sister, when I expressed my shock that she didn’t know the movie Aladdin, replied “Well I’ve never seen the classics!!”.
I wanted to cry.
@Poopy We all feel terribly old or young at times, that’s the beauty of life. Its been 5 years since I finished high school. Went a week before to pick up the transcripts. The kids there made me feel like their grandfather!!!!
@anoop66 in college, I feel like my classmates mother. However, inside I am still a teen. Age come and goes with where you live is at the moment.
Yesterday, Dec. 16, 2009, was my 66th birthday. do i feel any different today, compared to yesterday? no. do i feel my age? no. i have been blessed with good health and the doc stated i just passed my annual physical with flying colors. those words made my year. i exercise every morning and eat no red meat. actually, i feel great!
The first time I was referred to as “Unc” by some kid who bummed a smoke from me.
Young whipper snapper…!
This morning when I got out of bed!
53 going on 90. Everything is history now.
This week I feel like a senior citizen because, due to a raging sinus infection, I lost my sense of taste. Everything tastes like cardboard to me now. Now I understand why old people don’t eat very much, because the joy of food is gone when you can’t taste it.
@john65pennington Happy b-day!
