How do you differentiate between fear and a legitimate sense of caution?

like homer simpson’s voice… the one in his brain
I usually ask myself if I am overreacting. It’s like an inner dialogue with myself. Sound crazy? Mhmm, I iz.
Sometimes a little paranoid. :(
I hope it’s mostly objective reason that distinguishes the two for me.
@Xann009
I work a lot with inner dialogues too. I find it easier to think about complicated issues or decisions if I evaluate them as if I’m two Fyriuses (Fyrii, if you prefer) discussing it from opposing points of view. It’s a bit like playing chess with yourself, though it’s less competitive.
low profile…out of sight, out of mind! have a good one Jen Jen!
It’s quiet….a little too quiet
@Fyrius Totally! Sometimes I almost feel as if I am two different people, though.
@Xann009
Like two identical copies of yourself, or really two different people?
I occasionally try to have such conversations with imaginary characters too, in a “what would Courage Wolf do” kind of way. But I find it easier to just talk to myself.
@Fyrius More like two different sides to myself. Similar, but different in key aspects… This is making me sound crazier, hahaha.
Some of the best conversations I’ve ever had have been with my inner-monologue.
It doesn’t have a ‘voice’ per se. I more so get an ‘overlay’ of the words. Not quite sure how to describe that.
And usually, I’m thinking the same thing my inner-monologue is.
@Xann009
I don’t think that sounds crazy. I think it’s a good way to resolve ambivalent feelings.
And it’s a good way to be impartial while considering an idea, by being partial to several positions at the same time.
To heck with what sounds crazy, anyway. ;)
@Fyrius Haha, yeah. I have to say though, occasionally I’ll come to the wrong conclusion. But that’s to be expected. No ones flawless =P
It says DO NOT PUSH THE BUTTON only for me to go ahead a do it anyway!
Like the starter on a 1968 Dodge Dart on a cold morning.
Sometimes it’s pretty loud.
The voice changes between Jack Nicholson and Christopher Walken, depending on what mood I’m in.
Like static between frequencies.
It doesn’t sound like anything.
It feels like an urgency to “do it now” or be aware/wary.
Don’t discount the influence of fear. In moderate doses, it can prevent us from doing stupid things.
I do agree with Saboteur’s definition of urency. Unhealthy fear leaves you in a state of indecision, but caution makes you want to act now, and you know what course of action is the best one to take.
