Have you ever been part of a "class action lawsuit"?
I noticed about 5 new commercials for class action lawsuits on TV yesterday. Everytime you turn around it seems that there is a lawsuit against a new medication. I was just wondering if any of you have ever been a part of one of these and if so, how did it turn out?

I was without knowing it, I get a a check for 3 or 4 bucks once in a while. It was a collection agency that was harrassing customers…
I received a letters in two suits, saying they found records showing I bought a product, and they were suing the manufacturer for over-promising.
Many months later, I received coupons. One I think was $30 or $50 off Microsoft products (they sued Microsoft). The other was $13 off any computer monitor from a dozen companies (the mfg of my monitor was one of many who lost the suit).
No action was necessary on my part. In fact, the first notice said I had to inform them in writing if I wanted out of the class action, in case I wanted to pursue my own lawsuit.
Ever heard of ambulance chasers? this is an old scheme produced by attorneys that are not doing much business. they follow up on people hurt in auto accidents and convince the victim to sue the other party, so they can collect 30% of your benefits. the same applies to attorneys in medical lawsuits. they are like scavengers, searching the internet to locate any basis for a lawsuit. some lawsuits are warranted, but many are not and it just ties up the court system evern further. i have always said that if an attorney has to advertise, he is no good in court. good attorneys never advertise themselves.
Yes, over a zoning enforcement issue about 25 years ago.
No, but I’ve certainly seen enough ads for them. The local lawyers are getting rich, and the injured parties (if any, which isn’t always the case) get screwed.
Yes two and never received a penny nor heard one thing about either one.
One was for PSQL I owned some stock. Another was against the phone company when dsl first became big.
You will like this answer. back in the 70s, our police department had strict guidlines on police applicants. they could be no shorter than 5 ft. 6 ins. or taller than 6 ft. 7 ins. tall. the weight requirements were also strict. i was the treasurer for our police union. the executive board decided that these requirements were too strict and was strictly discrimination. the board, in behalf of all police applicants throughout the United States, filed a class action lawsuit in Federal Court for discrimination. this was in Nashville. the outcome? the Federal Court ruled in our favor, stating that just because a person did not meet police applicant physical guidelines, should not be a determining factor as to whether this applicant should be considered as a police officer. we won the case. it did not take long for the news to spread across the country. people wanting to become police officers could no longer be denied, just because of their height or weight. today, this is why you see so many police officers that are short, tall and everything in between. i am proud that we won this case. it was a necessary class action lawsuit and it defeated a really bad case of discrimination for police applicants.
@john65pennington That is great. Being a native of nashville myself, that makes me a little prouder of my city!! I have seen a few short officers on the force here and a few heavy ones as well, I think nothing of the height or weight, I just respect the badge. I think the age requirement was lifted as well, I did something real dumb and got pulled over and was given a ticket. The only bad part was I think the young officer was only about 12 years old!! I swear he didn’t look old enough to buy his own beer. Thank you for your answer.
I am currently apart of an insanely huge one regarding Chase credit cards. It’s funny as I didn’t even sign up to be a part of it. I just got this notification in the mail stating that my name was being used and that if I didn’t want it to be used than I needed to notify the firm within some time frame. One thing that confused me was that it was so big that I don’t know how it met jurisdiction requirements like the ones mentioned here. I didn’t really care either way about being in it, so I just left it!
