Why is it that everytime I take a test/exam and believe I did well on it, I fail?

Asked by troubleinharlem (7999points) December 17th, 2009

And whenever I think I failed… I do really well. Why does this happen?

I am not saying it’s true in your case, but when that happened to me, I often found that I was a bit too overconfident and didn’t give enough thought or take enough care in my answers or reading the questions.

Because you suck at evaluating your performance?
Lots of people do. Yours truly included.

And I’m guessing it probably happens often enough that you’re right about how well you did, but you forget about those time more quickly.

I do not have an answer; however, I have the same problem.

@Fyrius
My apologies if that sounded rude.

It is good to be positive.

Sorry about failing the tests. Keep up the good attitude!

That is a clear sign you didn’t study and you tried too hard to convince yourself you did OK

I found during school that second-guessing myself usually led to the wrong answer. However, if you’re seeing results that don’t align with your expectations maybe you need to do a better job of slowing down, thinking through your answers, and reviewing them before you turn in an exam. That might help.
