How is the U.S. gov't. going to give 800 million dollar for global warming?

Asked by Ghost_in_the_system (2035points) December 17th, 2009

With all the problems with our economy now (Medicare & healthcare costs being prohibitive, jobless masses, and an uncontrolled deficet), why would Clinton propose to front that much money? Why would an already broke congress agree?

This question makes too much sense, yet represents a minority opinion. GQ

(waits by for it to be modded as propaganda)

Time to pay back our debt for all that “white privilege” we have been experiencing. In addition, we have wronged the entire world by saving them, at various points in history, from Nazism, Fascism, Totalitarianism, Communism, and for kicking the asses of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

I have no clue. However, I support this. In fact, that is what tomorrows summit is suppose to be about.

He didn’t say the government would give it. You need to read it closer. He said we can raise that much money. Politicians raise money when they’re running for office, or if they have a non-profit organization, etc etc…. Basically they go around and ask rich people to donate money. I have little doubt Clinton himself could raise that much money given a few years. His organization gets donations worldwide from filthy rich people.

@westy81585 read the article, understood about raising money, wrong Clinton, by the way, she was promising money on behalf of US, who will invariably guarantee the money.

Even if someone sincerely believes in AGW (anthropogenic global warming) though CO² emissions, and only 36% of America does, providing funds to developing countries is akin to giving money to drifters and vagabonds at city corners. One may assume that it is being used as intended, or as their sign may indicate, but certainly one does not know. And, considering the oppressive nature of many developing countries, the money may simply be going to repressive regimes and American disdainers.

China, the world’s largest emitter of CO², has already stated that they have no intention of allowing an international audit or international enforcement agency to determine their future emissions.

Even if China did assent to this scrutiny, it is likely to turn into the same type of fiasco, as was the case with the UN Weapons Inspectors access prior to the Iraqi war.
Clinton, as Obama, believes that they will pass Cap and Trade legislation to generate the revenue. At this juncture and considering the massive cost increase to be passed onto consumers by energy and other manufacturing plants, this legislation, which is scheduled for next spring, will assuredly fail.

Same as every other developed country, through a carbon tax ( or what ever you want to call it)... this must be done to help other smaller countries catch up and get new power making installations

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it 800 billion with a ‘b’?

3forks's avatar

That’s $100 BILLION not 800.

For your average bear, after a million it tends to be academic.

How is the U.S. gov’t. going to give 800 trillion dollar for dealing with the consequences of global warming?

The ROI for investing in green technologies is HUGE.
