Is all the change we see and have seen with humanity for a reason?

In my opinion, some examples of change, like the progression of science, secularism and more liberal policies seem to be coming for a reason. I was under the impression that nothing stays the same and we are constantly evolving in many ways, whether it’s culturally, technologicaly, politically etc. Should we not allow some of this change, since, if we didn’t need it, so many wouldn’t be asking for it?
