Does '5 hour energy' drink work?

Asked by trailsillustrated (16804points) December 18th, 2009

I have so much to do and I don’t feel like doing anything. I’ve been this way all week. Does this ‘4 hour energy’ drink work? I’ll stagger over to the shop and buy some…

I wasn’t impressed. I still think some vitamins and a good breakfast (or meal, if breakfast time has already come and gone) prevail.

yeah they definetely work, you’ll be wide awake for the first 2–3 hours but then things start going downhill.

It helps.

Side note: Do not drink more then 2 in one night.
I did 4. It was no the way I wanted to stay awake. ;-)

5 hour energy drink? Do you mean like Red Bull?

I’ve had it before and I fell asleep an hour after drinking it (ha!). That said, I know others who swear by it. The answer? Everyone’s body is different. It might or might not effect you in the way intended. You could also try an energy drink like Monster or Vault if you are desperate. If you don’t drink caffeine often though, I recommend you try green tea first and then take a step up to decaf etc since your body won’t require much to be stimulated. And if you can get by without having to drink any of this unhealthy, unnatural stuff, then you should.

They never did anything for me.

It did nothing for me.

But, then…I drink coffee prior to sleeping.

Go figure.

@SABOTEUR So you have developed an immunity to caffiene? How bad are the headaches when you miss a day?

PretentiousArtist's avatar

I’d imagine it that it taste so bad that you must stay awake, along with the rest of energy drinks. I have heard about drinking water in the morning keeps you awake, but I haven’t tried that yet.

@Ghost_in_the_system: I don’t get headaches.

It seems to give me a buzz or a jolt for a couple hours, but then I crash when coming off the high.

tried it yesterday for the first time. I soon forgot I used it later on so I guess it didn’t do much for me. Your results may be different.

I used to have to drive 2 hours to get home on Friday nights after a long day. I always came home exhausted. One night about a year ago, while I was at the filling station, the clerk talked me into dropping $4 on one of these little cans—I was exhausted at the start of my journey, so something had to happen.

Turns out I made a mistake drinking the whole thing… I didn’t get to sleep until 2 am that night, but it was not the kind of nervous buzz you get from excessive caffeine. Now I use them on an as-needed basis, maybe once a week. They work.
