Have you ever had someone dent your car and apologize saying it was their fault till a cop showed up?

Its years later and I still get mad evertime I think of the guy who backed up into my car in a parking lot. I was easing out slowly and he was illegally parked on the side. It was evening and he decided to do half a u-turn by going back and he had his lights off. I wasn’t one foot out when he hit me. He gets out and admits it and wanted to exchange numbers without involving the cops. I told him I had to call the cops because it was the law. Needless to say when the cop arrived he told him I backed into him so it was my word against his. I lived in a no fault state so our own insurance took care of our vehicles. Luckily my insurance company believed my version since apparently he had a long list of accidents and I had none. I wanted to ring his neck. Would any of you have handled this differently? The cop took his whole story first and I could tell he believed his side of it. He only asked me for my license and registration and that was it. When I tried to tell him, he told me it would just be my word against his, so it wasn’t necessary. My insurance guy told me he was suppose to take a statement from me as well. Is that true?

I believe if it happened in a no fault state, it doesn’t matter what the guy said or how the cop was a jerk. No matter what, you would have had to go through your insurance.
Do you want me to kick his ass for you Pandy?
Oh Sir Lancelot! It was years ago and I’ve moved since then but it just still peeves me off when I think of it. But I wish you could. Then I know I will feel better.
In my mind you are kicking the living crap out of him. Take that you bastard!!!
LMAO
Boy your good! I feel better already.
Glad to help out any way I can. If it means Physical violence than so be it!!:) Just kidding, I am a wimp. ((hugs)) Pandy. Have a good weekend:)
@Sir_Mikey You too Mikey. (((Hugs))) for trying and making me laugh. As for my weekend they are saying, we’ll be buried in a foot of snow or more. Thats cool. I got cards, candles, food and a gas stove, and lots of blankets , just in case. Take care sweety.
You do the same Pan!! Great to hear from you again!!
There was the lady who backed into my car as I was sitting there and then she held onto the gas despite my horn-honking until I pounded on her driver’s window. The cunt wanted us to pay for a quarter-sized scratch on her plastic bumper cover while we were no longer street-legal and lucky to have kept our tailgate.
But most of the cars I’ve owned since are the type that people stay away from. An ‘85 Corolla may not be intimidating, but some people think twice when their mirrors are full of this .
@jerv I love it!
The only problem is if someone saw someone like me get out of that car, it would just make them chuckle. My avatar isn’t far off from what I look like. Well maybe a bit younger. LOL
It just blows my mind sometimes when I see people like that that display such a lack of integrity. Who do they think they are fooling? That is surprising that the cop didn’t take your statement as well, he should have. I am glad though that your insurance company believed you. If it makes you feel any better, karma has a way of doing its thing and I’m sure that guy has karma biting his butt on a regular basis. ;-)
I was in an accident last week with my boyfriend and we were switching lanes and the lady behind us moved and was in our blind spot and smashed right into us. Well were talking it out and she kept saying that it was her fault then said that we didn’t signal when we did and that we illegally pulled out in front of her. We didn’t but we got the ticket and now she is complaining that she is injured.
Grrrrr she is fine but I think she is an accident scammer.
@shego She probably is a scammer. I’ve know people who try to rip off insurance companies the very first moment they can. They never stop to think how that raises insurances for everyone. Themselves included. Maybe karma (like shermaq said) will return her the favor. I sure do hope so.
@Shemarq I hope you are right. I have often seen people get what they deserve returned to them out of the blue. It always makes me smile. :)
Thank you both for your answers.
